POETRY CORNER
I Don ’tWant to Know
By Angela Cavazos
I don’t want to know,
That you don’t love me,
That you don’t care.
I don’t want to know who you are with,
Or who you think about when it’s me that’s laying there.
I don’t want to know that my time is up,
Please don’t tell me to move on,
The facts will become obvious before very long.
I don’t want you to ruin
My ignorant bliss,
I don’t want to take the blinders from my eyes
And see all the signs I missed.
I don’t want to know
That I’m lying to myself,
That the fairy tale I created
Was a farce in the first place.
I don’t want to cry,
I don’t want to drown,
I don’t want misery
To once again yank me down.
I don’t want to love you,
If you cannot love me back,
It’s too late though,
It seems I’ve already done that.

SPC threw an unforgettable
homecoming party for bal-
let luminary Edward Morgan
January 17. The New York-
based, San Antonio native
swept people at the college
off their feet when he received
them at the Morgan Gallery,
that is named after his step-
mother, Kathryn Morgan;
she was a champion of the
arts at SPC.
The celebration was en-
hanced with exclusive dance
instruction for SPC students
under the eye of the special
guest. The events were pos-
sible because Edward was
returning to his hometown for
the first time as co-director of
his company—Morgan Scott
Ballet.
Edward came to the cam-
pus to share his love for art,
education, performance and
the community.
“Kathryn Morgan took me
to my first ballet class,” Ed-
ward said during the recep-
tion.
As Edward danced, Marga-
ret Mercadel of the college’s
Early Childhood Studies De-
partment said, “We danced to-
gether at Sam Houston High
School, then we grew up. He
went to New York and I went
to St. Philip’s College, where I
was a student of his mom’s.”
Mercadel and Paula Mata-
Williams worked together to
invite Morgan to the campus.
“We used to hang out to-
gether in high school. It’s been
an honor to reconnect with
him,” said Mata-Williams.
“Instead of resting and getting
ready for rehearsals for his
company’s first performance
in San Antonio, he comes
by, at our invitation. I’ll have
fond memories of him.”
The college hosted the
MorganScott Ballet Bronx
Outreach at the Watson Fine
Arts Center Dance Studios.
The company is the element
of MorganScott Ballet that
includes students from the
Bronx Borough in New York
City. The SPC Fine Arts De-
partment arranged for stu-
dents from its Guardian Angel
Academy, Dance and Kinesi-
ology classes to dance with
the Outreach artists, including
Artistic Director/Choreogra-
pher Morgan.
