the honoree at a kitchen shower

latter on Wednesday evening,
March 29.
The living room was adorned
"with arrangements of white
gladioli and blue daises in wedge-
wood vases.
The table was covered with an
imported cloth of Venetian em-
broidery. A pottery train filled
with mixed spring blossoms, and
yellow tapers in matching candle
holders formed the centerpiece.
On the Chinese choir bench was
a silver ring, with a silver and
blue maline diamond surrounded
by an arrangement of spring blos-
soms.
Little Miss Nancy Lou Bud.hek
presented the gifts to the honoree
in a miniature train decorated in
blue and pale yellow.
Misses Vivian Tschirhart,
Shirley Mae Auer and Charlotte
Ann Auer served. Mrs. Raymond
Ehlinger was in charge of the
guest book in which 40 guests
registered.

Mrs. Fred Jagge entertained
the Rio Medina H. D. Club Wed-
nesday afternoon, March 29
There were twelve members and
one visitor present.
After the business meeting, a
council report was given.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. F. C. Stinson
on April 19. It will be an agents
meeting.

4H Council in Hondo on April 1,
it was decided to hold a county-

Garden Pilgrimage
DEVINE — Preceding the
meeting of the Devine Garden
Club Thursday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. T. T. Adams, Mrs.
Adams general ihairnian, bad a
meeting of the chairman of the
committees and plans were laid
for the Spring Flower Show to
be held in May.
The Garden Pilgrimage will be
held in April. Mrs. Eugene Gra-
ham is in charge of routing out
the Pilgrimage.
Mrs. A. E. Driscoll, president,
appointed Mrs. Julian Roberson,
Mrs. Howard Wallace and Miss
Ida Garrett on the nomination
committee.
Following the business session,
John W. LaFargue, assistant
manager of the Devine Mill and
Elevator gave a talk on the con-
trol of insects and plant disease.
Spring flowers in a milk glass
container centered the table in
the dining room and another ar-
rangement adorned the mantel in
the living room. These arrange-
ments were made by Miss Ida
Garrett.
Ice Cream topped with straw-
berries and cookies were served
to the members and the guests by
Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Fre<^ Park-
er, co-hostesses.
Guests included Mrs. John T.
Sollook Jr. and Mrs. W. T.
Leatherwood.
Merritt Presented
Gifts On Retiring
C. M. Merritt, who retired
April 1 as Medina County Agent,
was honored Friday by county of-
ficials and other citizens. He was
presented with a 17-jewel watch
by the officials, a leather-covered
rocking chair by 4-H Club boys,
and a bronze cigaret holder and
ash tray by Clinton and Vernoi
Bippert of LaCoste.
The watch was monogrammed
‘‘C.M.M.* with the inscription
"For 30 years faithful service to
Medina County” and was pre-
sented by County Judge Arthur
H'. Rothe. Rothe also presented
the- chair in behalf of John Mc-
Anelly and the club boys. Veinor
Bippert made the presentation of
the pt i.-onai gifi from himself ami
his biother.
Present at the gathering were

tenure as county agent, along
with Mrs. Merritt, and his two
daughters. Mrs Merritt was given
a hydrangea plant by the court-
house officials and members of

first time that a national execu-
tive attended a fifth district con-
