School Business Your Responsibility
The adverse publicity Reagan County High School re-
ceived this past week has upset the whole community to the
point wteere little or no attention can be maintained In
classrooms by our more reserved teachers The painted signs,
hanging in effigy and talk of petitions by the students re-
flects the attitude of the parents who speak carelessly with-
out thinking It has forced the adult citizen to face facts
which can no longer be avoided, namely, hts lack of Interest
and responsibility toward his own school system which en-
ables him to "pass the buck" when a difficult decision of the
school board is announced in a daily newspaper
Bach citizen must share the blame because It is his chil-
dren educated with his tax money and he does not keep him-
self Informed, through the board member who represents
him, else a decision Issued by the board would be no surprise
How many cititzens remember the details of the school
budget published each fall; who comes up for re-election to
the board and when does that election take place? How
many assume the obligation to become acquainted with the j
board member who represents him, let's him know your In-
terest and keeps him Informed of the viewpoint of his and
your school district to enable him to do a better job
This week's decision is the result of the school board
“putting off” making a clear cut decision last year when de-
partmental heads and faculty contracts were discussed and
made The board members who didn't have the initiative,
didn't feel the responsibility of assuming his own investiga-
tion of current affairs was overpowered in discussion by
members who knew what they wanted accomplished or else
they took the easy way of accepting recommendations pre-
sented by the superintendent
