Let God Be Found True ... Romans 4:3
For a church to be the New Testament church it
must first of all be a divine institution, founded by
Christ. This is the “Kingdom” that Daniel prophecied
God would set up, one that would never be destroyed,
(Dan. 2:44, 45). In Matt. 16, the words “church” and
“kingdom” are used synonymously. “UPON THIS
ROCK I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH” (v. 18); “I WILL
GIVE UNTO THEE THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM OF
HEAVEN” (v. 19); “THERE ARE SOME OF THEM
WHO STAND HERE, WHO SHALL IN NO WISE
TASTE OF DEATH, TILL THEY SEE THE SON OF
MAN COMING IN HIS KINGDOM” (v. 28).
First we learn that Christ will build HIS church,
also denoting the ownership of the church. To Peter
Ha is giving the keys of the kingdom of heaven, allow-
ing Peter the privilege of opening the door to the
kingdom— (Acts 2; 10). This kingdom He speaks of
will be established during the life of some of them
standing there with Him.
Paul recognizes the church as having been pur-
chased with Christ’s blood (Acts 20:28). Is it any won-
der then that Paul, recognizing the church had been
established by Christ, called it by its rightful name
(Rom. 16: 16)? How many names in the denomina-
tional religions denote this ownership? How many de-
note ownership of a human source?
