Pilot Club donates helmets
to local elementary schools
rFhe Pilot Club of
A Livingston donated
safety helmets to Livingston
elementary students and the
PTO at both campuses do-
nated scooters to students.
Pilot Club President Bobbie
Shirley encouraged students
to wear their helmets while
riding their bicycle or scooter.
“Hard Hats for Little Heads,”
a Texas Medical Association
program, assists with the pur-
chase of helmets. Students
with perfect attendance in
Kindergarten through third
grade at Timber Creek
Elementary were eligible for
a drawing for a scooter and
three safety helmets for each
grade.
The Pine Ridge Counseling
Department’s focus this
year was “Just Do the Right
Thing,” and students from
Pre-K, Kindergarten and first
grade who exemplified that
motto were eligible for the
5 Easy Water
ConservationTips
The Texas Commission
on Environmental Quality
advises the following tips
for water conservation:
1. Collect rainwater for
outdoor use during the
peak summer months, and
you can save up to 1,300
gallons of water.
2. Watering your lawn in
the morning saves water
from being evaporated by
the midday heat and reduc-
es your water bill, too!
3. When needed, water
your lawn one inch, once a
week. Place a 6-ounce tuna
can on your lawn and stop
watering when it’s full.
4. If every household
fixed just one leaky faucet,
we could reduce water use
in Texas by more than 13
billion gallons a year!
5. Installing a water-ef-
ficient showerhead can re-
duce water consumption
by 25 percent to 60 per-
cent and save energy.

on Kate Lowe Road that could
be connected without inter-
rupting flow into the city has
been completed, Sutton said
Friday.
“They filled that line and
checked it for leaks,” Sutton
said.
“When they make the other
two connections at the plant,
they won’t be able to pump
water to us,” she added.
At that time, the city will
issue alerts via its Code RED
automated telephone system,
asking customers to be as con-
servative as possible with wa-
ter use.
The distribution lines and el-
evated storage tanks will hold
an ample supply of water for
a normal 24 hour period, but
cannot meet the demand if
there is a large amount of land-
scape watering under way.
