Yesterday afternoon as little Flora
Belle, the seven year old daughter of
Mr and Mrs. I .on Schriber. who re-
side oil. Stark Al(ey, was returning
fropt- the W. E. Larkin store, the
child was attacked by a vicious cow
which hooked the child a number of
times, rendereing her unconscious for
rer an hour.
A* above stated, the little one had
been sent to the store to make a
household purchase about 3 o’clock,
arul en route home the child was at-
tacked by the cow. which trampled
her to the earth, booking Her a num-

cutting the child about the neck and
shoulder*, ami in one or two instances,
had it not been for the horn* of the
cow coming in contact with the lit
tie one’s bones, it i* believed that the
little girl would have been killed.
The injuries received by the child
were *o severe and the fright so
gm't that she was rendered uncon-
scious for over an hour, and for a
time it was thought that her life was
in serious danger
Medical assistance was secured as
soon as the parents were apprised of
the condition of their daughter and
this morning the itttle one is doing
better than last night, though her
condition is still considered serious

There was quite a number of the
people of Orange who faced the in-
clement weather last evening to at-
tend the service* at the. Christian
church, and when services commenced
there was a very good sized congre-
gation present to hear the splendid
sermon by Dr. Colyer.
Miss Helen Achenbach and Mr, W.
L. Latting favored the congregation
with vocal selections, that were ex-
ceedingly well rendered and thorough-
ly appreciated.
The' subject of Dr. Colyer’s dis-
course last night was “The Dignity
and Immensity of the Soul,’! and it
was one of the strongest sermons
that Dr. Colyer hae delivered dur
ing the nearly four weeks of the
meeting. The sermon was powerful,
contained many convincing points of
much value and it* theme showed
that Dr. Colyer had devoted much
study to the subject.
The subject of the sermon this even-
ing will be "Earth, Heaven and Hell.”
Miss Sadie Malone will sing at this
meeting.
Services will commence at 7:45
o’clock, and an urgent invitation is
given out by Rev. Oder, pastor, and
the congregation of the church, to
every one in the city to, attend the
meeting.

A prominent visitor in Orange to-
day was Mr. J. A. Arnold, president
of the Commercial Secretaries Asso-
ciation of Texas, who spent the morn-
ing here interviewing some of the
business men who are interested in
the development work being carried
on by this Association.
Mr. Arnold has made his head-
quarters at Austin since the opening
the session of the Thirty-first leg-
islature, being there in his capacity as
secretary of the legislative committee
the Association.
This committee has done a splendid
work for Texas in disseminating in-
formation as to matters in which the
whole people are interested, especially
to the tax system of the state.
A product map of Texas was re-
cently printed and sent out by this
committee that is a valuable addition
to any office, as it shows the value
of the products of every county in
state during the past year and

Asked as to the situation at Aus-
tin, Mr. Arnold stated that he did
not believe that the legislature would
enact into laws many of the recom-
mendations of the governor, as there
is a disposition among the legislators
and among the people of the stale
generally to enact fewer laws and
determined effort is being made to
induce the legislature to pass an ap-
propriation bill at|d adjourn.
Of course, an appropriation bill can-
not be passed until the governor
sends a recommendation for same to
legislature, but that body can
decline to act on anything else until
e time for adjournment comes.
As to the measures now before the
legislature, Mr. Arnold thinks there
is little likelihood of any of them pass-
ing unless it be the bank guaranty
law, which may get through the
house, but which will have hard
sledding in the Senate.
Referring to the criticisms by the
governor of the Secretaries Associa-
tion, M[r Arnold laughingly remarked
