Ybur Chamber of Commerce
annual Banquet will be held
on Tuesday night, October 4,
at the school cafeteria. Our
banquet this year will be cat-
ered by Prank Sandel of the
67 Steak House, and Frank
says he will serve steaks wor-
thy of our outstanding speak-
er and many out of town vis-
itors.
Our feature speaker wlill be
Mr. Chester Lauck who at the
present time is Executive
Assistant to the Chairman of
the Board of Continental Oil
Company. Mr. Lauck Is better
known as "Lum” of the “Lum
and Abner” radio and movie
team TTiey made the first
major network broadcast in
1933 from New York City and
then in the early ’40’s they
moved to Hollywood and
made 12 full-length “Lum and
Abner” films while living on
the coast.
While in contact with Mr.
t-auc.k, we found that he will
come to Big Lake from Los
Angeles the day of the 4th.
The three days prior to our
banquet he will speak In Reno
and Lake Tahoe, Nevada, Los
Angeles and then Big Lake,
After speaking here he goes to
Cincinnati, Ohio, so with a
schedule like this, we feel

Big Lake Lodge 1203 will be
honored during a Workshop
to be held at 7:30 p.m., Sat-
urday, September 17, In the
Masonic Hall in Big Lake.
The Lodge will receive an
Honor Roll Award, which is
given by The Grand Lodge of
Texas In recognition of out-
standing attendance during
the Spring series of Masonic
Workshop programs.
The award will be presented
by E. J. Humphreys of Del Rio,
who is chairman of the five-
county Masonic Workshop
Area F-5. He will also conduct
the meeting.
He said that Midkiff Lodge
is also invited to attend the
Workshop. Nearly 200 such
meetings are held twice a
year for officers and members
of over 970 Masonic Lodges in
Texas. The Masonic Fratern-
ity is the state’s largest frat-
ernal group with nearly 250,
000 members.

Sealed proposals addressed
to the County Clerk and the
Reagan County Commission-
ers Court of Big Lake, Texas,
will be received at the office
of the County Clerk until
2:00 P. M., September 30, 1966,
for furnishing all necessary
materials, machinery, tools,
equipment, superintendence
and labor for the patching of
existing asphalt surfaced
treatment and the placing of
approximately 21,000 sq. yd. of
double and/or triple surface
treatment and approximately
one and one-half miles of
single surface treatment seal
coat in and for Reagan Coun-
ty, Texas.
BIDDERS QUALIFICATIONS:
Each bidder must be qual-
ified financially, experienced
and equipped to qualify for
similar work of the Texas
Highway Department.
Bidders must submit Bid
Eond or Certified Check Issu-
ed by a bank satisfactory to
the Owner, payable without
recourse to the order of the
County Judge in an amount
not less than five (5) per cent
of the largest possible bid
submitted as a guaranty that
Bidder will enter into contract
and execute bond and guar-
anty in the forms provided
within five (5) days after date
of the opening of bids. Bids
without required check will
not be considered.
The successful Bidder must
furnish performance bond in
the amount of one hundred
(100) per cent of the total
contract price from a Surety
Company holding a permit
from the State of Texas to act
as Surety, or other Surety or
Sureties acceptable to the
Owner.
All lump sum and unit
prices must be stated in both
script and figures. The Owner
reserves the right to reject
any or all bids and to waive
formalities. In case of ambi-
guity or lack of clearness In
stating the prices in the bids,
the Owner reserves the right
to consider the most advan-
tageous construction thereof,
or to reject the bid. Unreas-
onable (or unbalanced) unit
prices will authorize the Own-
er to reject the bid.
Eidders are expected to In-
spect the site of the work and
to inform themselves regard-
ing all local conditions.
Attention is called to the
fact that there must be paid
on the project not less than
the general prevailing rates
of wages which have been es-
tablished by the Texas Em-
ployment Commission.
