James W. Matthews, Scout-

in a camping and training
scout program, known as
Wood Badge training, at
Philmont Scout Ranch at

number may attend, and
their selection is based on the
capacity and willingness of
each to serve his council as a

NEEDS NO CHASSIS LUBE
FOR 30,000 MILES
Mrs. Jackie Holmes and
small son, Mark, spent the
week end in El Paso, visiting
with Mr. Holmes who is in
training at the Border Patrol
Academy.
They talk the same language, Capt. Pratt and his performing beauties, but watch the
graceful four-footed equine stars waltzing around the circus rings you’d never guess
that a word was being spoken. It isn’t—not vocally, that is, for Pratt works his "liberty”
or free-running horses with cues from his hands, the position of his body and from the
long whip which is used both as a directional guide and to snap the horses to attention.
The STERLING BROTHERS CIRCUS coming for afternoon and evening performances
long has been famous for fine horseflesh. Its 1961 edition promises to surpass all previ-
ous efforts in this as well as in other departments. Dancing horses, the "liberty" groups,
the fine bare-back riding steeds of Europe’s foremost horsewoman, Alise Conti, the
horses for roman-standing dot the thrill-packed circus performances and accelerate its
tempo to a breath-taking pitch. Trained ponies, too, of especial interest to children and
a clown’s pet donkey highlight the four legged part of the circus, all coming to Big
Lake on Tuesday, April 4th. The local firemen have advance tickets on sale now at re-
duced prices. Their part of proceeds will go toward Post 58, Explorer Scouts. Buy ad-
vance tickets now and help your organization more. The big tents will be erected on
the Old Little League Ball Park on Plaza Ave. at Reagan St.
Mrs. Fred Loftin has re-
cently begun her duties as
sales clerk in the Fashion
Shop.
Mrs. Dick Darling and
daughter, Shannon, and Mrs.
Darling’s mother, Mrs. D. L.
Harry, were recent visitors in
Austin to see Mrs. Darling’s
son, Ricky who serves as an
assistant reading clerk in the
House of Representatives. He
also is an announcer at a
radio station in Austin. Mrs.
Darling also visited with a
nephew, David McClendon, a
student in the University of
Texas.
