OLE SNOOP-
(Continued from page 1}
Irom Sour Lake. But ole Snoop has
tender ears and he couldn’t stand
that loud mouth answer. Perhaps
the Commissioners from Saratoga or
Kountze. Don’t be silly - these,
gentlemen don’t like dogs - at lea-
st not Pine Needle dogs.
Well, there was just one left. Vir-
gil Caraway, the only member of
the Court that represents the people
might do.' Everybody knows Virgil
Caraway is a brave, tuthful man,
whose words are reliable. So ole
Snoop hiked his tail and headed for
Caney Head.
Now, ole Snoop is a little foxey
for a Bassett Hound, and he just
pretended he knew something was

rocten in Denmark and in Kountzq,
too. After a little bluffing on the
part of Snoop, Virgil Caraway ad-
mitted that there was a shortage in
the County Clerk's office. Snoop
asked how much and was told he
didn'tknow how much,Snoop wantei
to know what the County Judge and
the Commissioners were going to
do about it. He said the majorit)
favored giving the Clerk a chance
to pay it back and not do anything
but try to keep it quiet. Ole Snoop
was assured that the taxpayers did-
n't have to worry because the mis-
sing funds was in the Probate De-
partment. Now, that made ole
Snoop feel better to find out that
the missing funds belonged to the
widows, orphans, minors and in-
competents who had to have their
money placed in the care and cus-
tody of the County Judge and Pro-
Court for safe keeping.
Ole Snoop, of course, is awfully
happy now except for one nagging
thought. If you can't trust the per-
sons who have the money in trust
for the probate estates, just who
are you going to trust - And just to
think, we were told we needed a
lawyer for County Judge who would
be able to protect the unprotected.
Now, ole Snoop likes lawyers and
all that, but he's about to reach
the conclusion that lawyers are
pretty good at covering up things
too. There are two lawyers on the
Commissioner's Court and the Coun-
ty Auditor is a lawyer.
Maybe a lawyer can figure out a
way to explain this mess.If so,Snoop
hopes it won't be in double talk
because he's just a simple pup and
can only understand plain English.
Well, anyway, it was a bad way

Last week was black for Hardin
County football, Kountze, Silsbee
and even Hardin-Jefferson hit the
dust. Only West Hardin bucked the
trtnd. West Hardin, like Virgil
Caraway, was the only bright spot
in the won-lost column.

The Silsbee Tigers need a mira-
cle to get back into league com-
petition now after having lost to
both West Orange and Bridge City .
Silsbee's offense bogged down be-
fore a fast riding Bridge City Car-
dinal attack.Silsbee goes to Orange
this week to take on a strong Orange
Tiger outfit fresh from beating
French 32-14. Since French beat
Silsbee, the nod has to go to Orange
Tigers over the Silsbee Tigers. (Hope
we are wrong on this one).
The ;Kouiit:.c_tioi^5 do not have
to be ashamed of tiieir showing a-
gainst Newton last week.They thr-
illed a large crowd with a good
showing. We think the spirit of die
Lions is about ready to pay off in a
close game. We pick Kountze over
the Kirbyville Wild Cats this week
in Kountze. __________
