Make plans for the future
55
With the present school year half
over this week, seniors at Port
Aransas High School are beginning
to intensify their preparation efforts
for college, trade schools or the busi-
ness world. As usual, they are be
coming a little nervous about what
the future holds for them, and as far
as their education at Port Aransas
High School, the lieht at the end of
the tunnel is becoming a little
brighter.
At this time of year, we begin to
stress on seniors the importance
of finalizing their plans about col-
lege or trade school. The primary
reason is if they are going to need
financial assistance with college ex-
penses, it is important that seniors
make those plans in January and
early February in order to get a
jump on the federal financial aid
process. Even though the process
has become a little more “user
friendly," it still tends to he a some-
what overwhelming task to those
who are applying for the first time.
The process usually begins in Janu-
ary because it is directly linked to
the family’s income tax returns for
the current year. The earlier fami-
lies complete their tax returns for
the current year
the sooner they
will have the ap-
propriate infor-
mation for the fi-
nancial aid appli-
cations. Once
the applications
have been com-
pleted and sent
to the selected
schools, the stu-
dent will be able
to focus on other
aspects of the
transition be-

This book legendary Port Aransas Fishing Guide
Barney Farley details
the memorable events
of his life from acting
as guide to President
Franklin Delano
Roosevelt to his con-
cerns about ecology
before 1960.
Farley was not satis-
fied to simply lament
the disappearance of
the once-beautiful
tarpon, he strongly
voiced his views on the
need for conservation.
Many of the problems he described are still
problems today, but some of his solutions have
been adopted.
Anyone who cares about fishing and the health
of Texas’ coastal and Gulf Waters will find an
authoritative and completely engaging voice in
Barney Farley’s book. ^ r\ yf 34
