South
A Christmas tree was had at the
church for the Sunday School
scholars on Tuesday night The
tree was prettily decorated and at
730 the distribution of presents
was begun by Santa Claus who
was personated by a popular
young man Boss Echols and be
was assisted by Silas Hatcher
Curtis Deware and Eugene Smith
delivered the presents as they were
taken from the tree The gifts
were simple but very appropriate
and each one received candy fruit
andnuts It was very much en
joyed by the little folks and the
big folks too and all are iudebted
to the ladies for their work in pre-
paring the tree
After the presents were distrib-
uted the crowd departed and a
goodly number of the members
and Chrrttiaie remained at the
church and held watch service
The talks and music throughout
was very impressive and at the
dying of the year the bell rang it

This scribe took a spin around
North Jefferson Sunday evening
with R R Taylor behind his ex-
cellent team of bays Among oth-
er places we passed by Clark
Boices big saw mill and planar
plant and the furnace plant of
which we only had a casual view
but sufficient to testify to Jhe faot
of their great importance in the
commercial affairs of Jefferson
He carried us to his firm in the
northtrn suburbs of town where
he has made some excellent im-
provements besides almost the
entir place set out in fruit trees
of nearly every variety with pea-
ches predominating manyof which
will bear fruit this year He has
a commodious fish pond in a shady
nook which he is at present stock-
ing up with the best varieties of
game fish Dick expects to mow
a thousand bales burmuda bay this
year besides enough for his horses
and herd of Jerseys which he pas-
tures on the place when not in the
pen It is a fine place and bids
fair to rival the best properties
