As previously stated, Maj. Beaton retired from
active business and professional pursuits more than
ten years ago and moved to his residence, " Gem
Hill," which overlooks the city of Corsicana and
is one of the most exquisitely beautiful and well
appointed country-seats in the South.
July 11, 1852, lie married Elizabeth J. McKinney,
(laughter of Rev. HIampton McKinney, a
famous pioneer and Methodist Episcopal preacher
of Navarro County, who moved to this State from
Illinois. Maj. and Mrs. Beaton have three children,
two sons and a daugliter. Their eldest son,
Ralph, is a member of the firm of Damon, Beaton
