In the CookPeary controversy
it is evident that Ananias disciples
are Btill favoring the publio with
rosey prevarications that would
seem a little bit plausible shorn of
the big I and little u features
more nautiating as the war of
words progresses
President Taft in an optimistic
mood says that women should not
marryexcept for a life looked for-
ward to with unmixed happiness
Looking forward for such a life is
easy for the average girl but the
rub comes when they try to real-
ize their consummation
The Boston school committee
hes handed down the dictum that
all high school girls must learn to
swim This may prove to be the
entering wedge of a system that
will proyide some practical and
useful subjects in the high school
curriculum of this country
By having no postal savings
banks the U S allowed the sum
of 431 956923 to slip throu its
fingers last year This is the sum
of the savings sent home for safe-
keeping by our foreign born citi-
zens who have government savings
banks in their native lands
Lawyers in the legislature al-
ways try to write the laws with a
loophole in them Tbe reason iB
they have to meet these laws in
their practice of the profession and
the loophole comes handy Caes
Connty Sun
That is why we need business-
men in the legislature to make
laws that will have no loopholes
That is whats the matter with the
country now too much tamper-
ing with the laws
What are Ayers Pills Lier Pills How long have they been sold Nearly sixty
years Do doctors recommend them Ask your own doctor and tad out
Leaving the question does pro
hibition prohibit is best answered
the
by the liquor dealers
who claim it does not it is inter-
esting to note that many states re-
port an appreciable decrease in tu-
berculosis and that the department
of vital statistics at Washington as-
serts tbe crusade ogainet the white
plague is now showing unmistak-
able progress and results The U
S was not the first to attack and
impede tbe march of this dreaded
disaase but it is certain that no
country ever directed more popu-
lar attention toward its prevention
or in which education on the sub
ject has been so widely diffused
Nearly every state in the union
has state and local societies organ-
ized to give Information about the
disease and to look after cases with
the poor or ignorant which owing
to tbe singular character of the in-
fection is the greatest public men-
ace With the spread of tbe be-
nignant gospel of fresh air as
cure for tuberculosis come the cus-
tom of permitting air to thejnside
of roomB and sleeping in open air
Tbe statistics show a wonderful
improvement on both the line of
preventive and curing consump-
tives We belive tbe time is near
when tuberculosis will cease to be
a scourge and its victims reduced
to a minimum
Every Individual in tbiB great
Red River valley especially from
Shreveport to Denison inoluding
its tributaries are vitally interest-
ed in the restoration of navigation
and should aid in every way the
commendable project now in force
to accomplish this devout consum-
mation The recent waters way
convention at Paris did much to
put the project upon a firm baBis
and realizing that agitation and
proseoution is the bedrock of suc-
cess committees were appointed
consisting of one from each pre-
cinct bordering on the streams and
instructed to solicit names and en-
courage interest in the greatproject
In union there is strength and the
most humble individual espousing
a cause has influence with the zeal
he communicates to others in his
agitation of the projeet In the
good days of navigation here and
the steamboat era statistics show
a volume of commeroe that stands
like a giant favoring the resump
tion of waterway traffic
The people are being bored with
cheap papers so called farmers
journals and semiweeklies pub
lished in Kansas City St Louis
Chicago and other northern points
The worst features about these
cheap papers is they are filled with
the big flaming whisky ads We
counted sixteeen of these big whis-
key adB in one paper Such papers
are dear at any price when placed
before your boys and girls Mc-
Kinney Examiner
There are several bad features
about many of these cheap journals
the worst of which is not always
the liquor ads Many other posi-
tively immoral thingB adorn their
advertising columns and placed
these to catch the money and
sometimes the bodies of tbe igno-
rant and unwary Bonham News
These cheap papers are not the
only ones which carry a line of
whiskey and other ads Some of
the Sunday editions of our state
are carrying almost the same line
as the foreign journals They all
carry them for the money never
thinking of the lives they may ruin
from doing so
From the fine varity of vegeta
bles fruits etc that have been
produced on Marion county soil
is only doing the county justice

Texas to Observe Thursday
November 25tb
Austin Tex Nov 18 This
proclamation was issued today
I Thomas M Campbell Gover-
nor of the State of TexaB in obedi-
ence to the revered custom estab-
lished by our forefathers do hereby
call upon the people of Texas to
freely join in observing Thursday
the 25th day of November A D
1909 as a day of general thanks
giving and to put aside their usual
occupations and assemble in places
public worship on that day for the
purpose of devoutly rendering
praise to Almighty God for the
manifold blessings that have come
to us as a people during the past
year Health peace and plenty
haB been our portion in large meas
ure We have lived in quietnfesB
every citizen has been permitted
the incomparable privilege of enr
joying the fruits of his own labor
No dire calamity has befallen us
and it is meet that we should
humbly and gratefully acknowl
edge these many blessings
In accordance with the example
by the Pilgrim Fathers and in con-
formity with the proclamation by
the President of the United States
let us generally and faithfully ob
serve this appointed day of Thanks-
giving In testimony whereof I
have hereunto signed my name and
caused the greatTeal of the State
of Texas to be affixed thereto on
this the 17th day of November

Secretary of State
One Anderon county farmer to
our knowledge bas made a good
living from his farm for the past
three years without selling a single
bale of cotton Still he has raised
considerable cotton and has it on
hand enough that if prices go to
fifteen cents and he sells at that
figure as he proposes to do he
will receive approximately ten
thousand dollars for his accumu-
lated crop He is proceeding
along tbe right line by making
cotton his surplus crop Such
a farme working under Buch a
plan ce a hold his cotton for a fa-
vorable orice and at the same time
make a living and keep out of
debt There is hardly a day in
tbe year that this man has not
something grown by him to offer
for sale he has a money income
all the time And that is what all
of our people should be doing
making a living outside of the cot-
ton crop and selling cotton when
they please If this man can turn
loose this fall at fifteen cents he
will have a pretty little bank ac-
count and will be independent

Our publio school is well into
its third month and progressing
finely on the lines of education
being imparted by a faculty capable
and zealouB in their respective
sphereB and ever on the alert to
promote progress and advance-
ment and to avoid the jars and
frictions incident to the institutions
of learning wnere large bodies of
yor h are gathered possessing so
many temperaments and different
sentiments calculated to involve
strife and petty factions Hence
the successfuiteacher must have a
well developed faculty for judging
human nature and training the
youth into ways they should go
besides the commanding functions
of an educator must be firm and
at the same time gentle and com-
municative and well versed in the
text books with the happy faculty
of imparting knowledge While
the school is noted for itB long line
of excellent teachers and trusteess
the present session has a faculty
well up to the standard who pos-
sess the functions of a commenda-
tory order that promises a wise
course and a happy finality of in-
telligent results And the pnpilB
of all the grades seem to imbibe
the prevailing spirit of progress
and are zealous in complying with
the rules and adapting themselves
to the conditions to promote har-
