of the work of Professor W B Hitter
who spent Inst summer on San Diego
bay and conducted the summer school

The San Dlegnns recently formed an
organization to be known as the Ma-
rine Biological association Its pur-
pose Is stated to Ik to found and endow
the San Diego Marine Biological Insti-
tution the objects or which according
to the preamble to the bylaws will
consist In carrying on a biological and
hydrographic suney of the waters of
the Pacific pecan adjacent to the coast
or southern California to build and
maintain rijjpubllc aquarium and mil
soiini undto prosecutc such other kin-
dred undertakings as may be deemed

After the Instltute Is founded and

red to the University of California so
that It may become a department or
