Attorney General Has Filed Suit
Against the WellsFargo and
Pacific Express Companies
Austin Texas Feb 10 The attor-
ney general yesterday on behalf of
the State of Texas filed suit in the
Fiftythird district court against the
WellsFargo Express company and
the Pacific Express company for a for-
feiture of their permits to do business
The ground for the suit is the alleged
agreement entered into by these com
panies with certain railroads in viola-
tion of the antitrust law The rail
roads involved are the Cane Belt and
Texas Sabine Valley and Northwest
ern in the case of the WellsFargo
Express company and tlio Texas and
Louisiana in the case of the Pacific
Express company No penalties

A portion of the Japanese lleet de-
stroyed the Russian cruisers Varlag
and Korietz in the entrance to the har
bor at Chemulpo
Troop transports and two thousand
men have also been taken in by the
Japs
The bombardment of Port Arthur
was resumed but no damage was done
to the fortifications or ships and a Jap
aneso cruiser was grounded
Russia has a torpedo boat flotilla at
Thornton Haven in the Yellow Sea
ready to intercept Japanese troop-
ships and it is there that the next big
battle may take place
The Czar has issued his supreme
manifest declaring war to exist and
work mobolizing another army for tlio
far ease has begun
Great Britain is prepared for any
emergency but she hopes to keep out
of the fighting
St Petersburg reports are that some
seven Japanese war ships have been
crippled and one battle ship sunk
A Russian victory on the Yalu river
is claimed as well as the occupation
of Chemulpo Corea

New York Feb 10 A Russian tor-
pedo flotilla is reported in dispatches
from Che Foo China to bo at Thorn
ton Haven Island fifty miles from
Port Arthur in the Yellow sea
The apparent purpose of the flotilla
is to intercept Japanese troopships
Another naval battle is expected to
result from this attempt
The Russian land forces are con-
centrating on the banks of the Yalu
river whore big consignments of field
guns and ammunition have been re-
ceived

There are now in the county jail
three lads ranging in age from ten to
twelve years who were arrested at
Elkhart by Deputy Ben Parker and
taken from the south bound I G N
train They are charged with theft
and other malicious mischief
The youngsters claim they came
from Shreveport and are veritable
little toughs
The lads were arrested on informa-
tion from Mr Adam Cone Mr Cone
was a passenger on tho train No
sooner had the train left the city lim-
its when these juvenile bad men began
to display pistols and scare passen
lers Mr Cone notified the deputy
and the arrests followed
On searching the lads a lot of costly
jewelry ring bracelts etc were
found which proved to be the prop-
erty of Kplstad Bros of this city
They wero only in Palestine about
thirty minutes but in that time suc-
ceeded in stealing the jewelry One
of them secured the jewelry while the
other too entertained the proprietor
They confess to stealing the pistols
at Longview and say they stole 14
from a woman there
