Mr W SI Thompson the Victim

Mr V M Thompson grocery mer-
chant on Main street a few doors
from the postofllce was slugged and
robbed Christinas eve night and mon-
ey to the amount of something moro
than 8500 is reported to have been j
taken from him
Thompson says two men were en-
gaged in tbo work but in tlio dark ho
could not tell anything moro about
them It was lato at night and lie
had locked up to go home Ilia horso
was in the rear of the store and hear-
ing a commotion back there ho started
up tho alley to see what was tlio trou-
ble lie saw the two men just before
one of them bilked him supposedly
with the butt of a pistol Thompson
was knocked unconscious by tlio blow
No cluo to the robbers
Thompson said his wife on leaving
the house bad brought most of tho
money down with her Tho balance
he had taken in at the store
Mr Thompson is a hardworking
industrious fellow and his friends
sympathize with him in his severe
loss
The Man From Mexico
Albert Taylor and his peerless stock
company opened their engagement in
this city at the opera house yesterday
afternoon and although tho weather
was threatening a good crowd greeted
Mr Taylor and his company in Tho
Man From Mexico Tho play was
highly entertaining Mr Taylor has
good support this year The play was
repeated at night to a goodsized
house
Tho specialties are fine including
Oliver tho coon shouter Browning
tho dancer a highclass picturo ma-
chine and othors
Tonight Ihey present the great char-
acter comedy A Southorn Romance
The Winner
Miss Elizabeth Flick was the winner

Crossed Wires Do Damage
Yesterday morning some telephone
and electric light wires became crossed
on Soutli Sycamore and considerable
damage resulted The telephone wires
became overcharged and a cable of
ISO wires was burned out disabling
that number of phones and the light
service south of tho railroad was
badly impaired for a few hours last
night The phones aro being repaired
as fast as possible
They Were Remembered
Mr Fred V Kitcher leader of the
Palestine Juvenile Band and Mr H
M Jones leader of Jones Orchestra
were remembered by the members of
those organizations on Christmas day
At a meeting of the band ib was de-
cided to give Mr Kitcher a nice pres-
ent and ho was presented with a
check for 25 Mr Jones was the re-
cipient of a fino box of Havana cigars
