SOME IRE SANGUINE
One Journal Avers That Japan Xot
Stands to Lose Mastery or Sea
1 Together With AH Fruits
of Land Victories
St Petersburg April 11 The out-
burst of enthusiasm which lias arousod
military and naval circles at the pros
pest of a aea fight which may change
the whole complexion of war finds no
echo In the Liberal press which vlewi
w 1th homethln akin to alarm even the
remote possibility of a turn of fortune
which will strengthen the government
at home The Chauvinistic organs
however are flllpd with long articles
discussing Admiral Rojestvenskys
chances hut they are all based on the
theory that the whole squadron has
reached the China sea
The Novoe Vremya highly com-
mends the admiral for having safely
accomplished the difficult feat of
bringing his squadron through declar-
ing the die Is now cast The Bourse
Gazette manifests undisguised pleas-
ure at the scare In British shipping
circles and the flurry In Insurance
rates produced by the sudden appear-
ance of the Russian squadron off Sing-
apore after the British had convinced
themselves the squadron was never to
go to the far east Japan says the
Bourse Gazette now stands io lose
the mastery of the sea together with
the fruits of all her success on Irid
Other papers expressed doubt as to
whether a sea fight Is Imminent ex-
pressing the opinion that Rcjehtven
sky is likely to await Rear Admiral
Nebogatoff and that Admiral Togo will
retire closer to his base before accept-
ing battle
Strict orders have been Issued to
officers on duty at the admiralty not
to make public any portion of the long
report which arrived here Sunday from
Singapore
There Is nothing procurable In re-
gard to the whereabouts of the battle-
ship Knlaz Souvaroff and other Rus-
sian warships reported to be missing
from the squadron which passed Sing-
apore It Is said they may be following
as a second division No anxiety Is
manifested at the admiralty where the
Associated Press was Informed In re-
ply to a question that the foreign
press and Japanese are probably more
worried about the location of the ves-
sels than we are There Is reason to
believe Rojestvensky Is on board the
Knlaz Souvaoff and that the division
which passed Singapore is In commnad
of a reax admiral
