This is an oyster month minus
the oyster weather
Any way Japan got what she
went to war for And that is
something to be proud of
to
Yellow tever continues
spread in Louisiana and the peo-
ple aro becoming more alarmed
every day Some of the interior
towns arc being deserted
The telephone and the rural
delivery arc increasing the value
of the farms in Anderson county
Now just build the interurban
and see things bump themselves
Palestines Board of Trade
while hustling for business should
also be humping itself for immi-
gration Fill up this country if
you want permanent prosperity
From day to day the GalDai
News is being vindicated for cor-
ruption and graft is creeping out
These things cannot be success-
fully hidden while prodding and
prying is going on
The fact that yellow fever was
carried all the way from New Or-
leans to Michigan but emphasizes
the fact that rigid quarantine
should be maintained by points
closer to the center of infection
the fact

came out of that peace conference
a great man and the nation is
proud of him If he hadnt tied
tho dove of peace to her nest she
never would have hatched
Tun soliciting committee for the
interurban railroad have met with
fair success as far as they have
eono with their work of soliciting
It is believed that the bonus can
be readily realized as soon as the
committee gets fairly started in
the work
Along about the time the fall
rains set in there is going to bo a
renewed agitation on the road
question However it will amount
to nothing People dont need
goo d roads in the dry season and
in the wet season it is too wet to
work them
The regular annual trade edi-
tion of the Galveston News was
issued September 1 and it is a
handsome and most interesting
edition It gives a very intelli-
gent description of GalveBton and
her trade conditions and makes a
fine showing for the greatest sea-
port on tho American continent
A few fellows with about as
much intelligence as a Trinity
river bull frog think it is smart
to stand around the streets and
criticise every progressive move
made by the intelligent people of
tho community They ought to
bee themselves as others sec them
Tin Houston Post is out with a
big trade edition issued yester-
day It is a most creditable pa-
per and should result in good lo
tho state However Palestine
docs not get much attention in it
notwithstanding thia town is in
the Post territory And this is a
good old town
Tin Tyler Courier of Thursday
read the riot act to the fellows in
that town who arc trying to get
the corporation abolished and
make Tyler a wide spot in the
road We have always held to
the opinion that people who do
not vant to live in town should

move to tho country and not
tho town to move If taxes are
too high as claimed let the peo-
ple correct them in the election of
competent officials
What has become of the effort
started hero a few months ago to
settle this county with good Ger
man immigration The Herald
believes that was one of the best
schemes ever started and if for
any reason it has been abandoned
it is to be regretted We have
always held to the opinion that
the most permanent prosperity
that can possibly come to Ander
Palestine will
son county and
come through increased popula-
tion of the right character in the
county And the Germans arc
preeminently tho people we need
to make our county grow like a
garden Besides they make de
sirable citizens Let the Board
of Trade start an inquiry along
this line and see if a little life
cannot bo putinto tho scheme
We need and must have the peo-
ple We want people who come
here to work and not grafters
