IS BOLD
HIS DEFEES
THE GENERAL OPINION IS THA
DARROW HAS HANDLED HIS
SUBJECT TOO BOLDLY
FOR DEFENSE
Special to the Herald
Boise Idaho July 25 Attorney Dar
row showed symptoms of the strain he
has been under when he resumed his
plea for Haywoods life tills morning
before the Jury His face was drawn
and he looked tired and his voice was
husky Parts of his speech were hard
to understand today and were appar-
ently a plea for justification It Is the
general opinion that Darrow has han-
dled his case too boldly and in such a-
way as to prejudice his hearers He
put the responsibility for the Colo-
rado troubles on the Mine Owners As-
sociation which he declared left a
trail of blood across the state cor-
rupted the courts and compelled gov
ernors to do its bidding
Evening Session
Boise Idaho July 24 When Clar-
ence Darrow finished his plea in de-
fense of Haywood at the evening ses-
sion of the court which opened a t G
p m he resumed his arraignment of
Orchard and McPartland
The attorney begged the pardon of
the Jury for dwelling so long upon the
character of Orchard but he said it
was necessary to point out just what
sort of a man it was who was con-
demning Moyor Haywood and PetU
bone so the Jury might determine
whether it would be safe even to whip
a dog on such testimony as he gave
much less to hang a human being Mr
Darrow described McPartland as a ly-
ing deceitful scoundrel The very life
of a detective he declared was a It
