The financial condition of Anderson
county as published In this paper
should be a matter of pride to every
citizen for the report shows the coun
tyIs out of debt has sufficient monej
in > its treasury to meet every con
ttagency that might arise and that
the county is possessed of other prop-
erty etc of greatvalue
And In this connection It might be
stated that the county enjoys the low-
est tax rate of any county perhaps in
Texas
All of which goes to show the
county has been wisely and most ex-
cellently managed
Read the report and inform your-
self of the condition of your county
Morse the ice king is in the toils
of the law He may yet cut ice in
this country and for the country
Help the farmer push his work and
keep in a good humor We all depend
to a large extent on the man with the
plow
If all people were as agreeable as
the candidates for office this would
be a happy go luck old world full of
you first dear Gastons
A cigar factory would help to ad-
vertise the fact that Anderson county
is the home of the finest cigar tobac-
co grown on the American continent

The Weatherford Herald advises its
people to keep in the middle of the
road until better sidewalks are pro
vided That might be a good spheme
here In Palestine Especially If you
are going to rubber at the pretty
flower yards
That Waco meeting to express dis-
approval of the conduct of a United
States senator Is going to be a rous-
ing affair and yet one that is deplored
by the people of the state At least
the fact that such a meeting is deem-
ed necessary Is unfortunate
The Herald manages to give the im-
portant news of the world to Pales-
tine people about twelve hours ahead
of all other papers reaching the city
Still a few people will do without the
paperand borrow it from their neigh-
bors when they must know the news
A new weather prophet has made
his advent In Denlson He says there
need be no apprehension of any more
cold weather this spring as a thunder-
storm occurred the last of January
and that is a sure sign of an early
spring We dont know how long he
has lived in Texas
The Fort Worth Star thinks the
business men of the country should
get Into the political game and stay in
It until things are set right This is
an important truth but business men
as a rule prefer to stick to their busl

The awful holocaust at Collinwood
Ohio yesterday in which nearly two
hundred children lost their lives by
the burning of a school building
should cause peopleeverywhere to in
vestigate the conditions in the school
buildings of the country and other
public buildings and the demand
should be made emphatic that ave-
nues of escape be provided Such a
tragedy should not be possible but
under present conditions is liable to
happen at any time anywhere
The anarchists boldly declare that
they had nothing to do with the attack
on Police Chief Shippy of Chicago If
Shippy had been killed instead of his
assailant there would have been an
other martyr to the cause of anarchy
but as the tables were turned the vic-
tim was an outcast of a madman
The police of the country will not be
misled by any such talk It Is to be
hoped that the police power of the
country will unite in driving these un-
desirables from the country and pre-
vent the arrival of others
Mr Taft has given out his platform
through the Ohio state republican
convention and from the outside It
looks real attractive But it will not
bear close investigation Among othei
things our fat enemy says he favors a
revision of the tariff But he does
not explain that this means the lower-
ing of the tariff He also wants the
trusts prosecuted This is work for
the democrats as the history of the
republican party does not guarantee
results along the lines suggested And
Taft would hardly prove bigger than
