Eulldog Stadium, Yoa-
1 ui.i, Texas — The Yoakum
bulldogs ran Into & pack oi
• hound dog” cousins here
I iiday night as the Cuero
High Gobblers racked up a
' 28-6 victory and would have
made it more had they been
in “good health”.
The “hound dogs” scratched
only when they itched, but when
they scratched it meant ail the
way. and they “scratched” too
frequently for the Bulldog's com-
fort.
Several key Gobblers had
slight touches of Asiatic flu for
the past week, but their ailment
was mild to the double pneumo-
nia contacted by the Bulldogs as
result of the breeze which swept
through this half filled stadium
on the heels of fleet Gobbler
touch-
it.
The Gobblers were mot tag in
putting the icing on the cake.
Taking advantage of a poor
Yoakum {want early in the third
period, they took over on the
Bulldog 11. It was Bill Dietze on
a sneak that produced the mark-
er. His try for extra point failed
and Cuero led 154).
It was not until midway in the
same period that the Gobblers
felt a tinge of the itch, and once
more they “scratched” with
Johnny Morph re* providing the
big toe as he raced around his
own right end, got a great block
by Parks, and went 59 yards for
the third touchdown of the even-
ing. Once more 145 pound Bill
Dietze laced the uprights and itteffi
score was Cuero 22-Yoatam, 1
The Bulldogs got down to busi-
ness shortly after opening of the
final quarter and with 180 pound
Ray Kelley, Yoakum captain and
fullback, blasting the center of
the Gobbler line, and Yoakum
passing revealing Cuero’s big
defensive trouble, they drove to
the 14 from where Mueller raced
over. The try for extra point was
no good and the score 22-8.
Fred Hansen was the boy who
got the ''bite” on the following
play.
He dribbled the YOakum kick-
off on the Gobbler 25 for several
seconds before deciding on a
take-off, and then showed hia
heels, going 75 yards untouched
for the marker. The try for extra
point fizzled and the Gobblers
called it a night with the score
28-6.
It was win number 2 for the
charges of Langdon Smith and
loss number 2 for the Bulldogs.
Cuero hosts Fkxresville’s Ti-

HOUSTON. Sept. 21.-(UP)-
Mouston’s Buffs took a long time
getting up steam, but today they
appear a sure bet to represent

when the iron was hot, and they
kept the logs on the fire. Scoring
touchdowns were Copenhaver,
Bill Dietze, Murphree and Han-
sen with one 70 yard touchdown
jaunt by Murphree nullified by a
Gobbler penalty. Dietze had two
successful tries for extra point
and it was the hard tackling of

The Gobblers started tilings off
in modest fashion as they settled
for a safety and 2 points early
ip the first quarter as Copenhav-

behind the Yoakum goal line.
-JCnd of the quarter found the
Score unchanged with the two
clubs moving up ar.d down the

stalled and Cuero took the kick

Fred McAlister lined a double

Dixie Series ail but out of Eagle

Dallas must win Sunday's game
to stay in the running. Saturday
was an off-day for the two clubs
due to football.

Pidge Browne picked up four of
the 14 Houston hits while Benny
Valenzuela got two hits, one a
double, and scored three times.
Willie McCbvey and Don Taus-

Dallas and Alex Cosmidis added
a solo blast.
Nelson Chlftum took the win for
Houston.
