Dear Heloise:
We grow greenhouse tomatoes
and are very proud of their
quality. We wish the consumer
to enjoy their quality also.
It makes us sad to pass homes
and see tomatoes perched on a
window sill in the bright sun -
light.
May I tell people how to rip-
en their tomatoes to get the best
possible quality
The tomato is placed calyx
'stem end* side down on your
counter or some convenient
place at room temperature aw-j
ay from the sunlight.
When it is ripened to one's ,
taste, then refrigerate and your
tomato will keep for a couple of
weeks.
Sunlight will scald the toma-
to before it is properly ripen-
ed inside.

Dear Mrs. R
that the emotional and physical
stress of pregnancy sometimes
tends to produce symptoms of
diabetes in women with a fam-
ily background of the disease.
Dear Heloisc:
Here's a tip for those who
live in hard water areas and
who have aereator type fau -
cets in their sinks.
These faucets often become
clogged with minerals and start
behaving like a spray after a
while. To correct this, simply
unscrew the cap on the end of
the faucet and remove the cop-
per screening. Put the cap and
the screening discs in a small
pan. cover with vinegar, and
boil about ten minutes.
This method removes every
bit of sediment and minerals
and is so much easier than any
other method I have ever tried.
What's more, the parts come
out clean and shining, and your
faucet works like new again.

ahead, it ia unreasonable for you
to forsake your potential happi-
ness by living in constant fear
of a disease that you do not
have and may never have.
Precautionary Measure
Dr. Max Ellenberg, President
of the New York Diabetic As-
sociation. and Dr. Henry Dolger,
both of the Mount Sinai Hospi-
tal in New York City, suggest
definite precautionary measures
that should be taken with such
a family history.
Obesity, it is emphasized,
must be controlled. When i
weight is kept well within nor-
mal limits for age and size, the
possibility of diabetes seems to
diminish. High sugar diets
should be avoided.
Double Purpose
Regular examination of the
urine and the blood will accom-
plish a twofold purpose: first,
it will bring assurance to you
and relieve your anxiety. Sec-
ondly, it will insure the earliest

ing the newborn child.
A close cooperation between
the physician, the obstetrician,
and the pediatrician reduces the
hazards to these infants.
Open Discussion

children can readily be elimin-
ated by open discussion with
your own doctors. Their inter-
est In your safety and in tha

exact course to ba taken.
It must be again emphasized
that where there Is a family
history of diabetes, close obser-
vation can relieve many of the
fears that are far more destruc-
tive than tha disease itself.
