THINGS A MACHINE CANNOT DO
Is onr mechanical age we may be Inclined to believe that all (he problems of
the universe will eventually be solved by science.
What machine can man devise that will mend the broken heart? The parent
who has lost an only child, can a mechanical arm encircle the shoulder and, with
a pressure of understanding, bring comfort?
What machine can cleanse a black heart . . . bring back a wondering soul?
When a boy goes wrong, what machine can sit beside him and tell him of home,
ef a mother's love, of friends who care?
In bringing peace to industry the machine can do nothing. H ran produce
goods but NOT good men and women!
God Himself did not devise a machine to minister to man.
Instead, He sent His Son who, by sacrifice and suffering touched the hearts
ef humanity,
Machines can do marvelous things. But only s Christ ow the crass esa sis
salvation for broken humanity. Only the touch of the Son of God will bring peace
to the sin-stricken soul.
May we draw aside from the hurried speed of a mechanical age and hear
again tbe words:
“Be still, and knsw that I am God.’’
Psalm 46:16
