"Jeweler's Delight*
The "crown jewel among
frujts " We're indebted to a
friend in Leuioiana for that col-
orful label fer a strawberry.
And who should know more
about strawberries than a native
of Louisiana, which supplies the
season’s first big crop of these
brilliant, succulent tidbits?
By mid-May, of course, the
Louisiana crap ia fading, and
moot ef the "home grown" her
ries are from Arkansas, with
long distance shipments from
California adding to supplies.
This is a big year tor straw-
berries. reports the Agricul-
tural Marketing Sen ice. Store
acres ware planted to berries
than usual, and the harvest gen-
erally hw been good, except in
East Texas where the berry
fields were flooded. In spite of
that, we've had lota of straw-

lhe baseball fans in your
family will tell you that one of
the most valuable assets a big
league pitcher ran have is a
‘‘change of pace" pitch for use
when the batters get ton well
acquainted with his curve and
fast one
There a an idea in that tech-
nique for jou in planptng your
family’s meals. When Dad and
the Kids get too accustomed to
the same routine of beef, pork,
lamb and beef, throw a change
of pace, in the form of turkey.
What a change of pace it It.
And it's so easy on the pocket-
book this year; low in coat and
still high in protein, at a time
when red meats are climbing.
This pleasant situation, re-
ports the Agricultural Market-
ing Sevice, results from greatly
increaed turkey production —
even greater In the Southwest
than elsewhere In the nation.
Furthermore, a good share of
the increase is coming early in
the season; much, much earlier
then ever before
At your favorite store right
now, you II probably find al-
most as many turkeys as you'd
expert to find around Thanks-
giving most years. And you ran
choose just the sise you like;
four to seven pounds, wonder-
ful for frying, broiling or barbe-
cuing; eight to 12 pounds, which
most families like for roasting:
an up to birds of 20 pounds and
more.
