Dear Sister Perry:
I arrived in Friendship to-day, and one of my first
tasks was the measurement of our church baptistry. The
back wall is 9'S" (nine feet, eight inches) across, and the
height is something like twelve feet, although I didn't measure
it, knowing there was no use as the painting couldn't be more
than 7'6". The front arch is nine feet high, but I believe
that a painting 7'6" in height, when the draperies are hung,
will be all right. I hardly know how the canvas should be
hung, as the back wall is finished with the insulating board
panels, as is the entire building. We shall follow your advice
in hanging, since you know best the proper methods.
I assure you again that your consideration in painting
us one of your fine scenes is highly appreciated, and we feel
that it will add greatly to the beauty and service of our new
building. I am enclosing a money order for 10, and I shall
gladly send any additional amount which a painting of this size
may require. The price is unbelievably small, and we appreciate
it all the more in that it means some sacrifice to you and your
fine talent. Do the work at your own choosing, and select,
likewise, a scene which you prefer.
We shall be happy for yuu to come by to supervise the
hanging of the picture as you tour through this section in the
fall, but if this is inconvenient, we shall give it our most
earnest service. Unfortunately, I shall be here only another
week, but all correspondence regarding this matter may be
carried on through this address.
It was my pleasure to see Charles Chumley and his wife
in Abilene yesterday, and I was also glad to meet Miss Hoagland.
Remember me to Myrta.
s in Christ,
