PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE—Sen. George S. McGovern, D-S.D., talks to reporter*
in Washington about the “fairly accurate" assumption that he will announce for the
Democratic presidential nomination. What makes “fairly accurate” even more
“fairly accurate" is Gary Warren with that big bunch of big McGovern buttons.

Lady Bird Tells It
A WHITE Hot'HE DAIRY,
by Mr*. Lyndon H. John-ten;
Holt, Rinehart A Win-ton;
tm page*: *10.95.
I-ady Bird Johnson, an Kart;
Texas girl with Old .South back-
ground transplanted to the
wanks of the Pedrmalcs River
tn the HIU Country and then
to the nation's rapital and the
Whit# House, said “I wanted
to share my life r this house,
tn these times. It was too great
thing to have alone."
So when Mr*. Johnson — a
most sensitive, sympathetic nnd.
vibrant person — followed her'
dynamic and also sensitive hus-
band into the White House, she j
started recording her Impress-
ions and thoughts.
Lady Bird is one of those per- j
sons who comes on mueh stron-
ger In person than in newspa-
per photos or even on television
When you are exposed to her in
person t shaking from personal
experience), her warm and out-
going charm wiU nearly knock
you down.
Not only that, but Mrs. John-

son is one of the most articu-
late women alive. She is well-
educated, well-traveled and likes
people.
This book is an intimate, per-
sonal account of the Johnson’s
White House years, starting
from the time of the assassina-
tion of President John F. Ken-
nedy in Dallas on Nov. 22, 196,1
Mrs. Johnson tells her feelings
about in thp White House, at
Camp David and back at the
LBJ Ranch in its absolutely
tranquil setting on the Peder-
nales. And she tells her feelings
about a lot of trips and funct-,
ions and persons both high and
low
And since sh# is perceptive i
and has a remarkable facility'
with words, she takes the read-
er with her.
It’s a long b»x>k and full of j
meat — not one to be read over-
night or e' en over a weekend.
But once you start it, you'll'
keep coming back to It.

BOXING . . .
WASHINGTON, D. C. - As
this is written the upcoming
Clay-Frazier go is set for either
February or March. An an-
nouncement will probably have
been made setting the date by
the time you read this
Sin e the Clay-Bonavena !
fight, in which the tough South j
American was knocked out for j
the first time in his career, j
many boxing experts have con-j
eluded Clay was not as |K)tent
as he was three years ago and
that Frazier should be the fav-
orite in the coming heavyweight
title match.
Those enthusiasts overlook the
fact that Clay did what Frazier
couldn't do — knocked out a
man Frazier fought twice. They
overlook the fact that Clay is
i certain to he better for *he
I Frazier fight than he was in the
Bonavena fight, since that was
only his second fight in three
years and the first in that time j
to go the distance.
Moreover, Clay t me very
close to getting Bonavena in the
9th, as he had predicted he
wiki id, and one suspects had
the fight taken place three years
ago Clay could have finished
him off in that round.
Clay is the heavy favorite in
the coming match. Frazier is
better than he was and he de-
finitely has a chance against j
the former champion but Clay ;
is faster and has a solid punch
with either hand and if he is
careful he can very likely win
on points, because he is faster
afoot.
If it turns into a slugging j
match, Frazier might catch j
him and it might also be the
other way around. Frazier will i
probably be going for that kind
of fight.
