Marie Owens
Funeral services for
Marie Allen Owens, 93, of
Nocona, were held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at
Jerry Woods Funeral Home
with Rev. Larry Shields offi-
ciating. A private burial will
be held at a later date.
Marie was bom May 8,
1920, in Bogata the daughter
of the late Spmgeon and
Stella Lee Hand. She mar-
ried Ray Allen, who passed
away in 1971, and then C.B.
Owens, who passed away in
1992. She passed away April
12 in Nocona.
She was preceded in
death by her parents,
Spmgeon and Stella Hand;
her husbands Ray Allen and
C.B. Owens; and a grandson,
Chris Allen.
Survivors include: a son,
James “Jim” Allen of
Marietta, Ga.; a daughter,
Averyl “Suze” Allen of
Salida, Colo.; two grandchil-
dren, Clark Allen and wife
Abigail of Powder Springs,
Ga., and Jae Uselton of
Salada, Colo.; and four
great-grandchildren, Max
Allen, Robert Allen and
Ronald Allen of Smyrna,
Ga., and Leanna Allen of
Branford, Conn.
Memorials may be to the

Sappington
WICHITA FALLS —
Ginger Mayfield Sappington
passed away Thursday, April
17, 2014, at Texhoma
Christian Care Center in
Wichita Falls.
Ginger was bom August
7, 1929, to Claude and
Beulah Mayfield in Nocona.
She was a fun and loving
mother as well as a devoted
wife. She was a wonderful
cook and enjoyed hosting
and entertaining family and
friends. She was raised in
Nocona where she attended
and graduated High School.
Ginger met her future hus-
band, James B. Sappington,
in Nocona where they mar-
ried on May 14, 1946. She
worked at the Whites Stores
of Wichita Falls as an
administrative assistant until
they closed. Later she
worked in retail until her
retirement.
She is preceded in death
by her mother and father; her
husband, James B.
Sappington; brother, Frank
Mayfield; sister, Nelly
Johnson; and one son,
Richard Allen Sappington.
Survivors include her
son, James R. (Ronnie)
Sappington and wife Sandra
of Wichita Falls; daughter,
Cori L. Sappington of Fort
Worth; and three grandchil-
dren, Deidre Sappington of
Indian Hills, Colo., Dustin
Sappington of Greely, Colo.,
and Gunner Sappington
Wichita Falls; and her sister,
Essie Coffelt of Morrison,
Oklahoma.
The family would like to
thank Best Care Home
Health Services, Altera
Sterling House and Hospice
of Wichita for all their care
and loving attention.
Zo Moore
Funeral services for
Zonetta “Zo” Moore, 91, of
Nocona, were held at 1 p.m.
Wednesday, April 23, 2014,
at Trinity Memorial Park in
Big Spring with Rev. Jack
McBride officiating. Local
arrangements were under the
direction of Jerry Woods
Funeral Home.
Zo was bom Jan. 15,
1925, in Wellington the
daughter of the late Leslie
Auburn and Sarah Etta
(Cook) Moore. She died
April 19 in Nocona.
She was a homemaker
and a member of the First
Baptist Church of Big
Spring.
She was preceded in
death by her parents, Leslie
and Sarah Moore; a daugh-
ter, Frankie Cherry; sisters,
Lena Moore, Maurine
Whisenant, Leslie Denmead
and Fay Moore; and broth-
ers, J.M. Moore, Glynn
Moore, Ray Moore, Howard
Moore and Benny Moore.
Her survivors include: her
daughters, Kim Combs and
Tricia Stewart of Nocona; a
brother, Joe Lynn Moore of
New Mexico; and three
grandchildren, Remington
Stewart, Rachel Stewart and
Garrett Combs all of
Nocona.
Memorials may be made

Dixie
Crownover
Dixie Idris Crownover,
98, was bom on Jan. 24,
1916, in Young County
where she lived until she
married Austin A.
Crownover of Archer City in
1937. She was the eldest
daughter of Richmond and
Fannie Routon.
Before moving to
Montague County, Mr. and
Mrs. Crownover resided in
Waco, for 33 years. Mrs.
Crownover was very active
in the Texas Parent Teacher
Association, serving as local
school treasurer and then as
Nocona Casket

Mrs. Crownover was also
active in the Methodist
Church in Waco where she
often led the Women’s Bible
Study group at the Herring
Avenue Methodist Church.
As a result of her service and
devotion to the women of the
church, she was honored
with a Life Membership in
the Methodist Women’s
Union.
While living in Nocona,
Mrs. Crownover was a mem-
ber of the Nocona First
Methodist Church.
Mrs.Crownover was also a
member of the Nocona
Literary Club where she par-
ticipated as treasurer for a
number of years.
Mrs. Crownover lived at
Rolling Meadows
Retirement Community in
Wichita Falls for 10 years
and had many friends there.
Mrs. Crownover was a
member of St. Marks United
Methodist Church while liv-
ing in Wichita Falls. She
moved to the Dallas - Fort
Worth area in 2008 and lived
there until her death..
Mrs. Crownover is sur-
vived by her daughters,
Dixie Ann Crownover of
Ellenton, Fla., and Mary
Jane Hunter of Hurst; her
son and his wife, David
Austin Crownover and Sarah
Nelson Crownover of
Argyle; two grandchildren,
Chad Hunter and his wife
Susan Hunter of Keller and
Cheney Hunter of Keller.
She is also survived by two
great grandchildren, Austin
and Emma Hunter, children
of Chad and Susan Hunter.
She was much loved by
her family and friends and
will be greatly missed. A
private service to celebrate
the life of Dixie Crownover
was held at Scott-Morris
Funeral Home in Nocona.
Oscar Cogdill
Funeral services for
Oscar Glen Cogdill, 95, of
Nocona were held Monday,
April 21, 2014, at the Church
of the Nazarene with Rev.
Marvin Pepper officiating.
Interment followed at Center
Point Cemetery under the
direction of Jerry Woods
Funeral Home.
Oscar was bom July 6,
1918, in Cameron, N.M., the
son of the late Grover and
Frances Johnson Cogdill. He
died April 15 at Muenster
Health and Rehabilitation.
Mr. Cogdill devoted
many years of his life to the
ministry. He was a full time
minister for several years
and part time at the Nocona
Church of the Nazarene.
When he was not in ministry
he was a carpenter and a
member of the carpenters
union.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Grover and
Frances Cogdill, and his
wife, Carma Cogdill.
Survivors include: his
brothers, Ben Cogdill of
Ogden, Utah, and Wilber
Cogdill of Clovis, N.M.; a
daughter, Shirley Wardlow
and husband Ken of Nocona;
a son, Don and wife Kay
Cogdill of Anaheim, Calif.;
five grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren and one great-
great-grandchild.
Zelma Wright
BOWIE — Zelma
Walker Wright (Stembridge)
passed away April 21, 2014
in Bowie after suffering a
stroke.
Funeral service were held
at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April
23, at the First United
Methodist Church of Bowie
with Mona Millard and
Robert Slayton officiating.
Arrangements were
entmsted to the White
Family Funeral Home of
Bowie.
Zelma was born to
Cleveland and Lenora
(Jordan) Walker on January
26, 1924 in Normangee.
She was a rancher for many
years in Bellevue after the
death of her husband Bill
Wright. Later, after retir-
ing, she lived in Bowie and
was a member of the First
United Methodist Church
of Bowie.
She most enjoyed mak-
ing hot rolls for friends and
church socials. Zelma was a
member of the local Bowie
VFW Ladies Auxiliary and
had served as officer in
many different local and
state positions.
She most enjoyed being a
member of Shelomi #43
Daughters of the Nile in
Wichita Falls, where she
helped, at that time, with
fund raisers in support of the
Shrine Hospitals for
Children. She enjoyed any
endeavor that helped chil-
dren to have a better live.
She was preceded in
death by her parents
Cleveland and Lenora
(Jordan) Walker; husband
Bill Wright; brothers,
Norman Walker, Dewey
Walker; and sisters, Faye
Walker freeman, Mavis
Walker Sanford, and Lois
Walker Reynolds (Weedin).
Zelma is survived by: a
son, Donald Ray Foster and
wife Judy of Washington
State; daughter Kathy
Wright Hammack and hus-
band Bill of Bellevue;
grandchildren, Melodie
Foster Schute and husband
Mark of Colorado, Angie
Foster Bland and husband
Devon of Washington state,
Donnie Foster Jr. and wife
Annette also of Washington
