Born on March 25, 1981 in Columbus,
- Georgia. Derek entered into God's arms
on August 3, 2009 to live eternally in
peace; those who loved him called him
"Big D" as his smile was as big as his
heart. Derek was the first-born, beloved
son of Lawrence Anderson Ill (Patricia)
and Kathleen Henderson (Stephen).
Derek traveled the world as a child of military parents and he knew no
strangers in his lifetime. Derek loved art and music and was an
accomplished electrician by trade, always loving to work with his
hands. Derek's free and loving spirit allowed him to live life to the
fullest during his short time here.
Derek was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lawrence
(Jr.) and Mary Ann Anderson, and maternal grandfather Ken Smith.
Derek's circle of life is now complete but his spirit will live on in each
of us.
Derek leaves behind a family who loved him immensely and will miss
him more than words can say. He is survived by his parents, Lawrence
Ill (Patricia) and Kathleen (Stephen), his brother Jonathan, sister
Annmarie; stepbrothers Davon and Dajuan, and stepsister Soria;
grandparents Don (Etta) Parson and Gail Smith; numerous uncles,
aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special family friends.
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom
shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of
6 whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
Wai on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen
tdine heart wait,, I.say, on the LORD. Psalm 27:14Don't grieve for me; for now I'm free,
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard him call;
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things too I will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
I'm with God now, I've been set free.
Than when we'd first begun.
