Mobile home damaged in Thursday afternoon blaze
By CHRIS AGEE
cagee@mineralwellsindex.com
PALO PINTO COUNTY- Firefighters
responded to a residential fire shortly
after 1 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block
of Wynn Mountain Road.
According to Palo Pinto County Fire
Marshall Buddy Harwell, fire investiga-
tors identified an electrical outlet as the
source.
As of Thursday, he said the reason
the wiring malfunctioned was
unknown, though he explained power
in much of the area was interrupted
during a lengthy rain storm.
Among the possible causes, he said, are
a lightning strike or power surge when
electricity was restored to the home.
Harwell said the interior of the struc-
ture was heavily damaged, if not
destroyed, by the fire.
The residence was occupied solely by
an elderly man, he explained, who was
not home when the fire began.
According to the occupant's brother,
Wayne Ratcliff, the resident returned
home after the fire started and noticed
his front door was extremely hot.
Ratcliff said his brother, who depends
on mobility assistance, lost many pos-
sessions in the fire, including a new
motorized scooter.
Though the loss of property is devas-
tating, Ratcliff said he is glad his broth-
er was not injured.
Firefighters
from Palo Pinto,
Lone Camp and
Mineral Wells
assess the dam-
age after extin-
guishing a resi-
dential fire
Thursday after1-
noon in the 400
block ofWynn
Mountain Road.
