Receives Degree
Miss Cynthia Sue Burkett,
daughter erf Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Burkett of Archer City was one
erf 882 spring graduates of
Southwest Texas State Uni-
versity in San Marcos, to re-
ceive her diploma Saturday,
May 19.
Aa Agriculture major, Miss’
Burkett received a Bachelor erf
Science in Agriculture degree.
The 882 degree candidates
included 548 from the College
of Professional Schools and 258
from the College of Arts and
Sciences. Seventy-six were
graduate students seeking mas-
ters degrees.
Speakers at the twin com-
mencement ceremonies were
retiring Education School Dean
Dr. J. Lloyd Rogers, who de-
livered the keynote address at
the College of Professional
Schools program, and State
Representatives John Poerner
of Hondo, speaker for the Col-
lege of Arts and Sciences and
Graduate School Program.
While attending SWTSU, she
was a member of Gamma Phi
Beta, served as advisor and
field secretary of the sorority.

Michael Fall of Archer City
and Jayne Townsend of Wichita
Falls were two of the three
‘ Outstanding Marketing Stu-
dents” at Midwestern Univer-
sity. The award was presented
by Sales and Marketing Council
of Wichita Falls.
Fall received hisBBAdegree
with a major in finance and
minor in accounting from Mid-
western May 19. He is cashier
at Archer City First State Bank.
Miss Townsend is a senior stu-
dent at Midwestern University.

cher City Monday. The Cof-
felts, former Archer City resi-

Mrs. Hal Bobbitt
Mrs. Hal Bobbitt of Wichita
Falls was honored recently with
bridal shower in the home of
Mrs. Ben Page, in Archer City.
Mrs. Bobbitt is the former
Kerri Jane Matthews.
The bride’s chosen colors of
pink and white were carried
throughout the party rooms in
bouquets of pink roses.
The refreshment table was
laid with a cut lace cloth with
a large white bell, interspersed
with small pink rosebuds serv-
ing as the centerpiece. Pink
candles in tapered silver
holders flaked the center-
piece. Silver appointments
completed table decorations.
Mrs. Marshall Peden, sister
of the groom, presided at the
punch bowl and Mrs. Rex Owen
served cake. Mrs. John Fall
registered the 75 guests. Mrs.
Page greeted guests then pre-
sented them to Mrs. Jane Mat-
thews, mother of the bride;
Mrs. Mack Bobbitt, mother of
the groom, and the honoree,
Mrs. Bobbitt.

Mr. and Mrs. J.V. Linscott
of Archer City returned last
week from a trip to the west
coast. They visited her broth-
er’s family, the John Meeks,
in Mesa, Arizona then traveled
to Long Beach, Calif, where
they visited his sister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Tyree. From there they
went to Oxnard for a visit with
her sister’s family, the Bob
Vestals. They returned to Tex-
as via Nevada, Utah and Den-
ver, Colorado and visited there
with their niece, Mrs. Loretta
Myers. They detoured by
Gower, Mo. for a visit with
their youngest son, the Rev.
and Mrs. Donny Linscott and
Lance, and attended special
dedication services for Gower
First Baptist Church's new edu-
cational building on Sunday, be-
fore coming home.
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED - The engagement andapproach-
ing marriage of Miss Margie Jayne Townsend of Wichita
Falls to John Michael Fall also of Wichita Falls, has been
announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Townsend
Agua Dulce, Calif. The engagement ring is a family heirloom
first given to his fiancee by the great-great-grandfather of
the groom. The wedding will be held in All Saints’ Episcopal
Church, Wichita Falls. The future bride is a senior student
at Midwestern University. The groom-elect holds a degree
from MU and is employed as cashier at First State Bank
in Archer City.

During April there were new
purchases of Series E and H
United States Savings Bonds
amounting to $2,069 according
to John Fall, Chairman of the
Archer County Savings Bonds
Committee. Sales for the first
four months totaled $15,792 for
39% of the yearly sales goal
of $40,000.
April sales in Texas totaled
$19,525,843 exceeding last
year’s $17,331,291 by $2,194,-
552. Year-to-date sales a-
mounted to $83,791,839, an in-
crease of $9,533,410 over 1972
sales of $74,285,429.
Nationwide, monthly sales
were $562 million, 11.8% above
1972 sales of $502 million. Ex-
changes of Series E and Sav-
ings Notes for Series H Bonds
amounting to $30 million were
reported for April, 13% above
the $27 million exchanged last
year.
