children left last week bound for
Houston to make their home. The
lady’s daughter. Miss Betty Mitchell,
remained here with her grandparents.
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Ballowe.
Mrs. L. Z. Adams of Olney spent
several days last week in this city
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A.
Crawford, who were both ill.

The outstanding work of farmers
and various business men in the field
of soil conservation throughout the
Upper West Fork Soil Conservation
District was recogniz d at a banquet
,held at Jacksboro Tuesday night; The
j banquet was sponsored by the Upper
; West Fork Soil Conservation Dtstriet
;and the Jacksboro Chamber of Com-
! merce. The program was witnessed
I by some 250 people and was climaxed
j by an interesting talk by Walter
Humphrey, editor of the Fort Worth
Press which spons rs the “Save the
Soil and Save Texas" statewide
awards program. His talk stressed
soil conservation as the concern of
everyone. Accomplishments cf the
district were cited cf which one of
the most important was the obtaining
j of seed and assisting farmers and
[ ranchers in seeding ten ;houeand acres
cf idle land to native grasses this
spring. Awards were given in the
form of plaques to those individuals
and groups doing the best job cf con-
servation farming and ranching last
year. The unselfish service of a
group of ranchers throughout the dis-
trict who provided funds for the dis-
trict ts carry en its various activities
was recognized. This grouo included
H H. McConnell. C. L. McNair. Vick
Baldridge. T. R. Coffield, Frank
Gene Autry - Champion, Jr. Turner and Earl Petty.
The supervisors stress that by ev-
