Abbott Is a 1972 graduate of Archer City High School. Peden
is a senior at Archer City High School and will graduate in
May. He is employed by a Wichita Falls Restaurant. The

Church in Archer City.
Registration Opens Monday
For Feed Grain Program
The 1973 feed grain program
has been announced by Willie
Thorman, chairman of the Ar-
cher County ASC Committee.
The program will include
corn, grain sorghum and bar-
ley. During the Feb. 5 through
March 16, 1973 signup period,
eligible producers may elect to
participate in the feed program
under one of two options.
Option A: The set-aside re-
quirement will be 30 percent
of a farm’s total feed grain
base. Payment will be on an
acreage equal to one-half of
each feed grain base established
for the farm. Per acre pay-
ment rates will be equal the
farm program yield times 35
cents for corn, 33 cents for
grain sorghum, and 26 cents
for barley.
A supplemental payment is
possible to the extent that the
five month national average
market price, plus the payment,
is less than 70 percent of par-
ity. The farmer’s 1973 grain
acreage will be limited only by
the set-aside and conserving
base requirements.
Option B: The set-aside re-
quirement will be 15 percent
of a farm’s total feed grain
base. Payment will be on an
acreage equal to one-half of
each feed grain base estab-
lished for the farm. The per
acre payment rates will be
equal to the farm program yield
times 24 cents for corn, 23
cents for grain sorghum and
20 cents for barley.
Farmers electing to parti-
cipate under this plan agree
to forego supplemental pay-
ments and limit their 1973 to-
tal feed grain acreage to the
total acreage certified as plan-
ted for harvest in 1972. Credit
for failed acreage, prevented
planting, additional set-aside,
substitution, barley pastured
out or harvested for other than
grain, and other acreage con-
sidered planted for base pre-
servation purposes will not be
included.
Under either option, there
will be no additional set-aside.

January Is A
Wet Month
The first month of 1973 with
3.22 inches of moisture, proved
to be the wettest January in
Archer City since 1968 when
4.74 inches of moisture was
received to capture the 20-
year record for January.
January, 1970 records show
a zero for moisture received
and January 1967 only shows
.02 inches received.
The January records show
that the temperature fell to
freezing or below 19 nights of
the 29 days included in this
week’s report, with the lowest
temperature falling to .09-de-
grees on Jan. 12. There were
also six days when the tem-
perature failed to rise above
the freezing mark with the high
on January 9 only reaching
19-degrees.
The high for the month was
recorded on Jan. 19 when the
thermometer soared to a
springlike 70-degrees. The
ground was covered in an ice
glaze on Jan. 7 with a half-
inch of snow falling on Jan.
11. A trace of snow was
seen on four additional days
but failed to cover the ground.

Brazos T rout
Fishery Depends
On Fishermen
Rainbow trout stock mgs in
the Brazos River after the ini-
tial Jan. 17 drop will depend
on the fishermen.
If there are good catches of
the cold-water fish, the Parks
and Wildlife Department may
consider further drops.
The department has released
4,000 trout below Possum King-
dom Reservoir 25 miles west
of Mineral Wells.
Another 2,000 trout will be
released in the spring.
“The river below the dam is
excellent trout habitat,” said
department Inland Fisheries
Chief Lonnie Peters, “it’s just
a question of how many fish
are caught.”
Intensive creel checks wiU
be conducted immediately after
the drop and periodic ones
thereafter.
“If only a few trout are
caught,” said Peters, “it would
be uneconomical to provide the
additional recreation.”
