t Germans Impose
dfcffe# Against *
French People
* VICHY—(UP) — Gen. Hein-
rich von Stulpnagel, command-
er in chief of the German occu-
pation forces, imposed a three-
day blanket curfew on the en-
- tire Paris area Friday because
“ of attacks on German troops
and warned that curfew violat-
ors would be held as hostages,
possibly to be shot in reprisal
for: future attacks.
m The curfew order, and a proc-
* lamation by Stuelpnagel com-
planting of lack of “co-operation”
by the French people, were pub-
lished this morning in the Pa-
ris newspapers for public in-1
f formation.
9 “I will no longer tolerate that I
lives of German soldiers are
threatened by assassins,” Stuelp-
nagel said in his proclamation.
"I will not waver before any
. measure, however, severe, in |
* the execution of my duty.”
Stuelpnagel announced that |
the Paris curfew would be effec-
tive from 9 p. m. to 5 a. m. Res-
taurants, cafes, theatres and |
0 movies must close at 8 p. m.
9 All traffic is forbidden on I
the streets during the curfew
hours. German army patrols,
not French police, will rule the
streets during the curfew hours
f and, it was warned, will arrest
* and hold as hostage all persons |
who defy the ban.

Power Strike
Reaches End
* KANSAS CITY, Mo. — (UP)
A two-day strike of union em-
ployes at the Kansas City Pow-
er and Light Co., which at one
time blacked out the metropolis
. for four hours ended Friday.
* The AFL International Broth-
erhood of Electrical Workers
agreed to return to work under
promise of the company to re-
hire, with specified exceptions,
0 all strikers, and pending inves-
” tigation of the dispute by a na-
tional defense mediation board
representative.
The back-to-work vote—184 to
2—was taken shortly after mid-
^ night following a three-hour
9 meeting which was addressed
by Chester Smith, utility com-
pany president, and the firm’s
lawyer, Ludwick Graves.
Fred Riddell, local president
^ of the union, gave the company
* his assurance that the strikers
would return to their regular
shifts, the first group reporting
at 7 a. m. Friday.
Meanwhile the plants contin-
* ued to operate with non-union
employes and strike-breakers
the company had imported.
Company officials said no deci-
sion had been reached regard-
ing disposition of the strike-
_. breakers and the union said it
® could not comment on any as-
surances it had been given re
garding their discharge.

Killed When
Planes Collide
CORPUS CHRISTI — (UP) —
Naval air base officials said Fri-
day that funeral services for
Capt. Stuart Carlisle Stetson, 36,
killed by a propellor Thursday
in a collision of two training
planes, will be held in Elkins
Park, Pa.
Stetson, a Marine corps re-
serves air instructor, was the
grandson of John B. Stetson, hat
f- manufacturer. He graduated
from the Pensacola naval air sta-
tion in 1930 and was commission-
ed a captain when he was called
to duty a year ago.
The flier had been a commer-
H clal pilot for the Pitcairn Co. of
Philadelphia. Before being sent
here, he had served at San Di-
ego, Calif., Quantico, Va., and
Parris Island, S. C.
Survivors are his parents;
g wife, the former Anne Denny of
Jenkingstown, Pa., and a six-
year-old son and an eight-month-
old daughter.
Stetson’s death was the sec-
ond in two days from propellor
* accidents at the air base. D. B.
Brown, a seaman, was killed
Wednesday when he walked in-
to the path of a taxiing trainer
plane.
