Obituaries
Rachal
Galindo
D. Randolph Rochal, 77, of Taft,
died Friday, November 28, 1997
after a lengthy illness. He was born
to Chris and Eliza Idem Rachal on
October 22, 1920 in Portland, Texas.
He was in farming and ranching in
the Taft area for several years.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Mary Ann Buckley Rachal, his
parents, three brothers, and five sis-
ters.
He is survived by two sons,
Randolph Buckley (Nora) Rachal
and Edward Odem Rachal, both of
Taft; two daughters, Ann (Alan)
Rachal Miller of Taft and Patricia
(Mike) Rachal Powell of Portland;
two sisters, Billye Bryan Grime of
Corpus Christi and Carrie Agnes
Baldeschwiler of Corpus Christi; five
grandchildren: Stacy, Monica, Bo,
Amy, and Max; and numerous
nephews, nieces, and other rela-
tives.
Funeral Mass was held at 10:00
a.m. Wednesday, December 3 at
Corpus Christi Cathedral concele-
brated by Reverend Father Michael
Howell and Reverend Father Robert
D. Dunn. Interment was at Seaside
Memorial Park.
Active Pallbearers were Steven
Grime, |oe Harney, Johnny Barrett,
Randy White, Jimmy Hickey, and
David Baldeschwiler.
Honorary Pallbearers were Max
Floerke, Charlie B. Owen, Tony
Kunitz, Johnny Koonce, Jeff Bell,
Dave Odem, Joe Fritter, Durward
Stevens, and Ernest Guedin.

was born November 1, 1914 In
Mextiacocan Jalisco, Mexico. She
was preceded in death by her hus-
band Armando Galindo Sr., of S3
years.

TX, and Arturo Galindo of Premont
TX. Six daughters: Enriqueta

Rosary will be recited at 7:00
p.m. on Wednesday, December 3,
1997 at Colonial Funeral Home
Chapel. Funeral Mass will be cele-
brated at 2:00 p.m., Thursday,
December 4, 1997 at the
Immaculate Conception Church
with Father Patrick Donohoe offici-
ating. Interment will follow at San
Patricio Memorial Gardens
Cemetery in Portland TX.
Colonial Funeral Home of Taft is
in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Winnie Barlow Schindler,
96, a resident of Taft, died Saturday,
November 29, 1997 in Corpus
Christi.
Mrs. Schindler was preceded in
Virginia Carver, Bemadina Cortez,
Cody Dugat, Brandi Flemming,
Kristin French, Christopher Garcia,
Karen Elizabeth Gadway, Janet
Hernandez, Christina Hiracheta,

A rosary was recited at 1 p.m.
Monday, December 1 at the
Colonial Funeral Home Chapel,
Taft, with Father Ed Kircher officiat-
ing. Immediately following the
rosary service, graveside service fol-
lowed at San Patricio Memorial
Gardens Cemetery, Portland.

was in charge of arrangements.
Rodriguez
Jose L. Rodriguez, of Taft, died
November 25, 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Petra;
a daughter, Agapita Rodriguez, of
Taft; six grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at
noon Saturday, November 29 at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
Realitos. Burial was in Realitos
Cemetery, Realitos, Texas.
Colonial Funeral Home of Taft
was in charge of arrangements.
A total of 35 students from the
Taft Independent School District are
included in the 31st Annual Edition
of Who's Who Among American
High School Students, 1996-1997.
Students are nominated by high
school principals and guidance
counselors, national youth groups,
churches and educational organiza-
tions based upon students' academ-
ic achievement and involvement in
extracurricular activities.
Traditionally, 99 percent of
Who's Who students have a grade
point average of “B" or better and
97 percent are college bound. Local

Elliott
O. B. Elliott, 90, of Pawnee, died
November 26,1997. He was a retired
farmer, rancher and member of the
Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons,
Richard Elliott of Pawnee and
Thomas Elliott of Three Rivers; a sis-
ter, Pauline Haft of Taft; 12 grand-
children and 18 great-grandchil-
dren.
Services were held November 28 at
the Church of Christi, Three Rivers.
Burial was in Pawnee Cemetery.
TASP Test Required

Beginning in the fall of 1998, all
students must take the TASP test
before enrolling in any college
course work.
The next test date is February 28,
1998 with a postmark registration
deadline of January 30, 1998. There
will not be another opportunity to
take the test until the following list-
ed dates.

handle and settled dawn in the hiU
country of Austin where she attend-
ed the University of Texas.

ing business, Anna graduated from
UT, then she married and maiyed to
Taft, where her husband’s family is
originally from.

While coaching junior high
sports is rewarding in its' own
rights, Anna Fonville also enjoys
cooking and sewing as a form of
relaxation, and the most rewarding
pursuit of all is spending time with
her six year old daughter Kirsten.
Her husband, Shawn is the son of
Tazh and Judy Fonville of Taft.
Birth
High, but lately has been consider-
ing the possibilities of maybe mov-
ing into the lower grades.
"Maybe as a teacher at the ele-
mentary level." She said, but went
on to say,
"I truly enjoy what I'm doing
and feel fortunate to be able to earn
a living coaching. I love being herq
and I'm glad to be coaching at the
junior high, but I am really interest-
ed in teaching the elementary kids
the fundamentals of basketball.
Maybe forming a Little Dribbler's
program, or something along those
lines."
With over four years of experi-
ence under her belt, coaching in
various sports such as volleyball,
basketball, track and softball,
