Christmas Rush Underway
It was the day after Thanksgiving and the Christmas shopping rush in
Wylie was much in evidence. The above picture was snapped about
noon as long lines formed waiting their turn at The Ladylike Shop.
Local stores reported brisk business, proving that it pays to “Shop in
Wideawake Wylie.” (News Staff Photo).
Pre-Development Lot Prices Good Till Dec. 15TH
Developers of Wylwood
North and Wylwood East are
calling attention to the fact
that pre-development prices
on lots in the area will be
good only through December
15.
Lots contracted for through
that date may be purchased
at a considerable saving
compared to the prices asked
after that date.
Construction of streets,
alleyways and installation of
water and sewer lines are
underway, and unexpected
interest has been shown in
the project, according to
developers.

Area C. of C. Has Meeting
On Saturday night, October
19, the Wylie Area Chamber
of Commerce held a
membership meeting at the
Wylie High School Cafeteria.
All members and their
spouses were invited along
with several non-members.
Approximately 90 people
enjoyed a delicious dinner
which included Prime Rib of
Beef, Potatoes AuGratin,
assorted vegetables, and a
dessert.
During a short business
meeting before this dinner,
Chamber President Raymond
Cooper gave a report on past
activities of the Chamber and
spoke briefly of future plans.
This get together was more of
a social gathering than a
business meeting and it is
reported that a good time was
had by all.

the winning TD? Don’t worry! Like that TV
commercial says: “Prestone, prestone, who
needs prestone?”
Yep! “When you gotta’ go, you gotta’ go!”
And Wylieites by the hundreds will be in
Mesquite Friday night hoping the Pirates
“gotta’ go again!”
(For the record, the Pirates made history
Friday night. Their win over Breckenridge
marked the first time a local team has even
won regional. Heretofore, the Pirates have
won a number of bi-district games, but the
Friday win was a “first.”)

WYLIE
ABOUT THE AREA: It’s that season of the
year! The Christmas shopping rush got off to a
fine start here Friday, the day after
Thanksgiving. The city was full of people on
both Friday and Saturday which was good
news for local merchants. Incidentally, most
Wylie stores are stocked with full shelves of
quality merchandise and your local merchant
is deserving of your taking a look as you plan
your buying. Let him know you appreciate his
efforts by giving him a part of your business,
more especially if he uses the advertising
columns of this newspaper......Thanksgiving
could never have been more traditional!
Wylieites by the hundreds celebrated in usual
style: Good food, good fellowship amidst ideal
weather, and all giving thanks for blessings
untold!......The new Visitors Center at the
Lavon Reservoir office promises to attract
large numbers of people. Go by and see the
fine job done by the capable staff at the office
at the lake. Most interesting!......Roland
Boyd, McKinney attorney, has been
re-elected to the Board of Directors of the
North Texas Commission......NTMWD Direc-
tors in regular session here Tuesday afternoon
at their Wylie offices......Wylie schools back
to classes Monday morning following the
Turkey Day holidays. Teachers and students
now await the Christmas holidays......Hill-
crest Manor continuing to attract new
residents every week. It is a fine facility,
providing excellent care and attention, and
when the need arises in your family by all
means give it consideration......Drouth
conditions still prevail in the area, causing
considerable concern. Lack of rainfall affects
all segments of the economy indicating we
need an old-fashioned gullywasher!......Foot-
ball Frenzy: It’s so difficult to single out
“star” players in Wylie’s football effort that
we want to say here and now: Never have we
seen a better example of team effort than has
been evidenced in the Pirates’ march to the
playoffs. Both offense and defense, from top
to bottom, or end to end, have played without
caring who got the individual honors as long
as the team won. You known, that’s why
they’ve been winning! And our hats are off to
this great effort, which has produced a
history-making combination!
