Bike-A-Thon Leaders Announced
Ngtsataatatitxicwaoaaaa
AREADtATHr''''
St. Jude Children’s Re-
search Hospital is proud to
announce that Mrs. James
Berend and Lester Anderle
have been named to head
the 1979 Spring Bike-A-Thon
campaign in Windthorst.
and Jack Byas will head up
the campaign in Archer City.
William J. Kirwen. St.
Jude's Development Direc-
tor. made the announcement
and said more informajion
will be forthcoming concern-
ing the date, place, time,
etc.
“We are proud to find such
dedicated persons for this
important task,” Kirwen
said. "St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital offers
hope to stricken children
everywhere that would not
be possible without such
volunteers.”
St. Jude Children’s Re-
search Hospital is the only
research center dedicated
exclusively to the study and
conquest of catastrophic
diseases of children. Its
work, particularly in leu-
kemia and other childhood
cancers, has been inter-
nationally acclaimed and
cited as a leading example
for basic and clinical
research.
“No one has ever been
charged for the benefits pro-
vided by St. Jude Hospital.”
Kirwen said. "And that
includes the extremely ex-
pensive total medical care
provided to children enrolled
in its research studies.”
“Over two-thirds of this
year’s 19 million dollar
operating budget came from
public support. Each year
we rely on events like this to
pay for the following year’s
costs."
“Since Danny Thomas
opened this institution in
1962, his dream of conquer-
ing the deadly diseases of
childhood has continuously
been brought closer to
reality. Mr. Thomas is still
the very active president of
this organization and in-
spires us in this cause,”
Kirwen said.
