CITY, SCHOOL ELECTIONS SATURDAY
Roard Incumbents
Draw Opposition
Voters in four Archer
County school districts, Ar-
cher City, Windthorst, Me-
gargel and Holliday, will go
to the polls Saturday, April
5, and mark ballots in the
annual trustee election.
Archer City voters will
vote for two trustees from a
field of five candidates.
Running for re-election are
Jack Mueller and Bobby
(Clown) Williams.
Mueller, independent oil
operator, is president of the
local board and Williams, of-
fice manager for L. T. Burns
Estate, is secretary.
The remaining candidates
on the ballot for the two
slots are Way land Abshler,
manager for Be rend Bros.,
Ben Bnerger and John Bell,
farmers and ranchers.
Also appearing on the bal-
lot, unopposed, is Max
Green, farmer and oilfield
worker, for a two-year un-
expired term.
Archer City election boxes
will be at the County Library
behind the city hall and the
Columbus Home Building in
Scotland. Jeff Seay will
serve as election judge and
Mrs. Jake Sheppard as clerk
in Archer City. Clerks at the
Scotland box will be Pete
Hoegger, Hugo Teichman
and Bill Schlabs.
Also appearing on the
school ballots will be two
county school trustees with-
out opposition. Joe F.
SEVENTH ANNUAL
Powell, precinct three and
Jack O’Donohoe, precinct
four. Other county board
members are Jeff McMur-
try, trustee-at-large; L. A.
Berend, precinct two and
Paul King, precinct one.
Holliday Election
Four candidates are vying
for two places on the Holli-
day school board. No incum-
bents are running with new-
comers being Jerry Kelley,
Lonnie Brackeen, Royce
Coats and Mike Parker.
Voting boxes for the Holli-
day election, April 5, will be
at Holliday, Dundee and
Bowman.
Windthorst Election
Two incumbents, Mrs.
Connie Steinberger and
David Meurer, have filed for
the two vacancies on the
Windthorst school board.
They will be opposed by A.
G. Reis, Jr., former member
and president of the board.
The board election will be
held in conjunction with the
city election at the high
school on April 5.
Megargel Election
Three incumbents will be
unopposed for three seats on
the Megargel school board.
Announcing for re-election
are Edwin Symank, Henry
Cuba and Fred Knobloch.
The trustee election will
be held at the Megaxgel city
hall with Mrs. J. T. Duke
serving as election judge.
FIREMEN DONATE - Archer City Volun-
teer Fire Department presented Roger Col-
ley, hospital administrator, a check for
$2,527.02 toward the purchase of a new car-
diac monitoring unit to be used in caring for
cardiac patients. The money was raised by
members of the department by soliciting $1
raising event.
Rattlesnake Round-Up
Begins Saturday
Archer County’s Seventh
Annual Rattlesnake Round-
up will be held April 5-6 at
the Junior Livestock Show
Barn, according to Marvin
Henry, general chairman.
Registration begins Friday,
April 4 from 1 until 5 p.m.;
Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.;
and Sunday, 1 to 6 p.m.
Henry emphasized that
hunters must be registered
to be eligible for prizes.
Tours have been planned
and will leave the barn at 10
a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday
and 2 p.m. Sunday. Awards
will be given to the hunters
capturing the longest and
shortest snakes; most
pounds; and snakes with
most rattlers caught on
guided tours.
Rattlesnake hunting is an
First Queen Contest
unusual sporting event. The
pit will prove to be educa-
tional and entertaining for
those in attendance as Bar-
nen Barnett of Wichita Falls
and Rusty Easley of Okla-
homa City, professional
snake handlers, will be in
the pit with live rattlers, lec-
turing and demonstrating
proper handling, venom
milking and first aid.
Admission to the pit la
$1.00 for adults and 50 cents
for children.
Rex Owen and his com-
mittee, Mrs. Rex (Georgia)
Owen, Cecelia Owen, Rev.
Don S. Youngblood and Rog-
er Coltey, will be in charge
of the admission gate into
the pit Saturday. Sunday,

Legion, Firemen Push
Cardiac Fund Over Top
A special fund drive to
purchase a cardiac monitor-
ing device for the Archer
County Hospital received
two large contributions that
will push the total past the
$6,000 mark needed to pur-
chase the equipment.
Roger Coltey, hospital ad-
ministrator and head of the
drive for the life-saving
machine, received a check
Monday morning from the
American Legion Post of Ar-
cher City for $1,000. Follow-
ing this he received word
that the Archer City Volun-
teer Firemen had raised over
Contest Draws Eight Contestants
Eight young ladies have
entered the first Archer
County Rattlesnake Queen's
Contest to be held this year
.in conjunction with the Sev-
enth Annual Rattlesnake
Hunt this weekend, April
5-6.
Sandy Robertson was the
first contestant to register
with Miss Becky Crow,
Chamber of Commerce
manager. Other entries In-
clude Debbie Aulds, Becky
Half, Julie Loftis, Tina Rob-
ertson, Janella Schenk,
Georgia Wood and Cathy
Frerich.
Sandy’s parents are Mr.
and Mrs. Bobby Robertson
and she is an 18-year-old
senior at Archer City High
School. She has participated
in FHA, Spanish Gub, Li-
brary Gub, Student Council,
and basketball cheerleader.
She was cast in both the jun-
ior and senior plays and was
named in Who’s Who in
Home Economics.
Debbie is a sophomore at
Archer City High School and
is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Aulds. She
has participated in FHA, Li-
brary Club, band, stage
band, and served her fresh-
man class as secretary-treas-
urer. She is a member of the
National Honor Society,
president of the Methodist
Youth Fellowship, and the
American Red Cross.
Becky is also an 18-year-
old senior at Archer City
High School. She is a
member of the FHA and was
one of the first girls in the
local school system to join
the vo-ag class. She also
runs track and was named
Friendliest in ACHS last
year. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Al Hoff of
Scotland.
Julie is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Loftis
and is classified as a sopho-
more at Archer City High

drive and would be turning
this in as soon as all returns
were in.
The drive, inaugurated a
couple months back by the
administrator had stumbled
along at a slow pace until
last week when Rusty Linde-
man of Windthorst got the
“ball rolling" with a $1,000
gift to the fund.
The American Legion
Post, in a special called
meeting, voted to take
SI,000 out of their game
night fund and give it to the
cardiac fund. Jack Mueller,
post commander and Tom
Walsh, chairman of the
game night, presented the
check to Coltey Monday
morning.
The Archer City Volunteer
Firemen undertook the pro-
ject a couple months back
and collected over 2500 $1
donations from area resi-

In Council Elections

Council elections will be
held in all incorporated
towns in Archer County Sat-
urday, along with trustee
elections in the four inde-
pendent school districts.
Polls for all the elections will
open at 8 a.m., and close at
7 p.m.
Very little Interest has
been noted in the city elec-
tions, while voters in the
school districts have a choice
of candidates in three of the
four elections.
Running unopposed for
the city council in Archer
City are incumbents Harrell
(Pee Wee) Hutson. Charlie
Lee Martin and L. J. Cathey.
Archer City voters will be
marking ballots in the city
hall with Jeff Seay serving
as election judge, and clerks
will be Mrs. George Gholson
and Mrs. Jeff Seay.
Holliday Council
Holliday city voters will
face a long ballot in Satur-
day's election with all six
spots open for election, in-
cluding the mayor’s post.
Voters will be electing a
mayor and two councilmen
for a one-year term and
three councilmen for two-
year terms.
Louis P. Hodge and Fred
John Daume, Jr., are the
candidates (or the mayor's
post. Council candidates in-
clude Jimmy Blankenship,
place one; Ben L. Ezzell,
place two; Gene Harmon,
place three; Eugene Benny
and Robert Martin, place
four; and Fred Ford Maier
and G. R. Killian, place five.
Mrs. J. L. Moss has been
named election judge and
clerks are Mrs. Jerry Fields
and Mrs. C. D. Knight.
Voting will be at the city hall
from 8 a.m., to 7 p m.
Windthorst Council
Four candidates are seek-
ing three places on the
Windthorst city council in
Saturday's election. Incum-
bents listed on the ballot are
L. A. Berend, Louis Schroe-
der and Leslie Conrady.
Looking for a seat on the
council is newcomer Bill
Vieth.
The election will be held
in the high school building
in conjunction with the
school board election.
Scotland Council
Three candidates have
filed for two vacant seats on
the Scotland council. Seek-
ing the spots are Oscar Stall-
cup, Walter Schlabs and
Hugo Teichman. Grady
Schenk is running unop-
posed for the mayor’s poet.
Saturday's election will be
held in the Columbus Home
Building with J. Gyde Pey-
sen serving as judge. Gerits
will be Mrs. Charles Oliver
and Mrs. David Jackson.
Lakeside Election
Lakeside City voters will
be facing two ballots Satur-
day. in addition to the regu-
lar council election, resi-
dents will vote "yes" or
"no” on a $40,000 bond pro-
posal to build a new commu-
nity building to house city
offices.
The proposed building will
be Butler-type and con-
structed on city lots near the
present water plant In Lake-
side East. The proposed
building will feature central
heat and air conditioning.
The community room will ac-
comodate approximately 300
persons for community gath-
erings and will feature a
kitchen. A fire station will be
included in the building pro-
gram at an estimated cost of
$44,000 for the entire con-
struction.
Voters will elect three
councilmen that are running
unopposed. Listed on the
Lakeside City council ballot
are Eugene E. Hayden,
Mertie M. Brazier and Jon
J. Rivkin. The elections will
be held in the Gint Cozart
cabin.
Megargel Council
Four spots are open on the
Megargel city council with
only three candidates listed
on the ballot. Incumbents
listed on the ballot are Ed
Rose, Freddie Livingston
and Charles Otto. No candi-
dates are listed on the ballot
for the one-year un-expired
term that was created when
a member of the council
moved out of the city limits
last year. A write-in vote will
name the fourth member of
the council.
Holdover members of the
Megargel council include
Bennie Hons and Mayor
Charlie Kulhanek. The city
election will be held in the
city hall with Mrs. J. T.
Duke serving as election
judge. Gerks will be Mrs.
Albert Knobloch and Mrs.
Victor Kulhanek.
Edmund Conrady, Prominent
Windthorst Rancher, Dies
Funeral services for Ed-
mund J. Conrady, S3, a
prominent Archer County
rancher, were held Monday
morning at 10 o’clock in St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in
Windthorst. Rev. Cletus
Post, pastor, officiated.
Burial was in St. Mary’s
Cemetery.
Rosary was said Sunday
evening in Aulds Funeral
Chapel in Archer City.
Mr. Conrady was born
Dec. 7. 1921, in Windthorst
to pioneer residents, the late
Mr. and Mrs. George J.
Conrady.
He was a member of Ket-
teler Council 1824, Knights
of Columbus; Father Albert
General Assembly of Fourth
Degree Knights; St. Jo-
seph’s Society; Archer
County Farm Bureau; Santa
Gertrudis Breeder's Associa-
tion; Windthorst’s represen-
tative of the Archer County
Historical Society; Parent-
Teacher’s Group and past
member of both the Wind-
thorst school and church
boards and Parish building
committee.
Mr. Conrady recently as-
sisted with the establish-
ment of St. Mary’s Catholic
Church as a historical site
and donated the historical
marker which was recently
Finnell Heads
Cancer Drive
At Holliday
Former State Representa-
tive Charles Finnell has
been appointed by the
American Cancer Society to
head the Holliday residential
charity drive. Finnell. a local
attorney, has accepted the
appointment and designated
Monday, April 14, as the
kickoff date for the local res-
idential drive.
Plans for a coffee in Holli-
day on April 14 are being
formulated. Details of the
coffee will be announced
later. All interested citizens
are encouraged to attend
and participate in this im-
portant meeting.

and Teddy of Windthorst;
three daughters, Mrs. An-
drew Klement of Muenster,
Mrs. Michael Berend of
Wichita Falls and Renee of
the home; a brother, George
H. of Windthorst and a sis-
ter, Mrs. Tom Garrett of San
Antonio.
Wilson Infant
Dies Saturday
Funeral services for Fred-
erick (Freddy) Bryan Wilson
were held at 9 a.m.. Monday
from Hampton-Vaughan Fu-
neral Chapel in Wichita
Falls. He was the two-year-
old son of Mr. and Mrs.
Frederick Wilson of Scot-
land.
The infant apparently
choked while eating Satur-
day evening and was rushed
to the Archer County Hospit-
al. Interment was in Crest -
view Cemetery.
Freddy was born March
19. 1973 in Wichita Falls.
Survivors include his pat-
ents; a sister, Tressa; and
paternal grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Alan Wilson of
Oklahoma and maternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
G. W. Sutton of Vera.
