Joe “Hoot” Walker
Funeral services tor Joe
"Hoot'' Walker. 58. of
Wichita Falls, were held
Monday in Hampton-Vaughn
Funeral Home with Rev.
James Palmers, pastor of
Floral Heights United Me-
thodist Church, officiating.
Burial was in Crestview
Memorial Park.
Mr. Walker died Friday in a
Wichita Falls hospital. He
was born Sept. 27, 1924 in
Wichita County and was a
member of the Floral
Heights United Methodist
Church. He was a horse
trainer and was employed
with several of the large
Archer County ranches
before he set up his own
bams on FM 368. He was an
approved cutting horse judge
and had judged in National
Cutting Horse Association
Futurity competition the past
five years.
He was a veteran of the U.S.
Navy during WW1I and
served in the South Pacific.
Survivors include his wife
Sammie of the home: a son
Darrell Jay Walker of
Wichita Falls and a sister.
Mrs. Mary Frances Deathe-
rage of Wichita Falls.
Samuel Wilbur Wingrove
Funeral services for Samuel
Wilbur Wingrove. 89. were
held Friday in the United
Methodist Church at Vashti.
Burial was in the Vashti
Cemetery under the direction
of Totten-Day Funeral home
of Electra.
Mr. Wingrove died
Wednesday at his home in
Electra. He was bom June
29. 1893 in Waverly, W. Va.
and came to Archer County
from Wichita County in 1941,
living here until 1957 when
he moved to Vashti. He
moved to Electra three
months ago He was a retired
pumper for Tenneco Oil Co.
Survivors include three
sons: Kenneth of Electra;
Riley of Minden, La. and
Burl of Gladewater; five
daughter, Juanita Welch,
Clarksville; Cora Bristow and
Helen Moore of Vivian. La.;
Irene Ayres of Holliday and
Dorothy Todd of Ojjai. Calif.;
a brother. Frank Wingrove of
McPhearson, Kansas; 35
grandchildren: 61 great-
grandchildren and 17 great-
great-grandchildren.
Daughters Of The Republic Of
Texas Hold Meeting
Col. James W. Fannin and
the Battle of Goliad, "was
the program subjects of a
meeting of the Dr. Branch T.
Archer Chapter. Daughters
of the Republic of Texas on
Saturday, in the W.C. Young
•lome in Archer City.
Mrs. J.D. Mullis. organizing
president of the chapter ,
brought the program. Mrs.
Jack Robertson, president,
directed the business meet-
ing.
It w as emphasized that any
member who wishes to
purchase DRT insignia.
Sesquicentennial pins, or
maps of the 1836 Republic,
contact Mrs. Mullis or
chapter officers soon.
Chapter librarian Jean
Patterson reported on the
titles of books available in
the chapter.
The chapter will plant a
pecan tree on the grounds of
the Archer Museum in honor
of Dr. Branch T. Archer.

Who’s Who
A total of 22 students from
this area have been included
in the 16th annual edition of
Who's Who Among Ameri-
can High School Students.
1981-82.
Who's Who. published by
Educational Communica-
tions. Inc., Lake Forest,
Illinois, is the largest high
school recognition publica-
tion in the country. Students
are selected by high school
principals and guidance
counselors, national youth
groups, churches or by the
publishing company based
upon students’ performance
in scholarship award contests
or extracurricular activities.
Final selection is determined
on the basis of criteria which
include high achievement in
academics and leadership in
school activities, athletics or
communitv service. Tradi-
tionally. 99% of Who's Who
students have a grade point
average of "B" or better and
97% are college bound.
The 16th edition of Who's
Who. published in nine
regional volumes, features
363.000 students, or 5% of
the nation's 6,500.000 high
school juniors and seniors.
They represent 20.000 of the
22.000 public, private and
parochial high schools in the
country.
Who’s Who students also
compete for over $50,000 in
scholarship awards and
participate in the publica-
tion's annual opinion poll of
teen attitudes. The book is
distributed on a complimen-
tary basis to over 15,000 high
schools, colleges, universi-
ties. and public libraries
through-out the country.

Health will conduct a
Screening Clinic at the
Archer Service Center,
Archer City on December 13,
1982 from 9:00 a.m. till 12:00
noon.
The following screening
tests will be offered: blood
pressure, anemia, diabetes,
height, weight, and skin
disorders. If an abnormality
is found, the person will be
referred to the physician of
their choice.
