will begin at 2 p.m. at the Wallace
City Park parking lot, located
on Highway 77/81 in Hillsboro.
The first tour stop will be at
the Ronnie Gerik Farm just off
Highway 81 north of Hillsboro.
At this location, seven hard red
wheat varieties are planted in
side-by-side test plots. Varieties
in this test include: Coronado,
Ogallala, TAM 400, Custer,

"Clear Field Wheat." This is
wheat that is resistant or toler-
ant to the "IMI" herbicides. This
technology could result in im-
proved grass and weed control
for wheat planted in Texas.
Other topics that Dr. Miller will
address are grading soft and
hard wheat, Karnal Bunt, and
freeze damage as it relates to
planting dates and nitrogen fer-
tilizer.
The second tour stop will be
at the Loreen Weaver Farm on
Fm 2719 north of Itasca. This
tour stop includes 11 varieties of

gender-related changes in future
editions of the NIV. Apparently,
the pressure groups continued
their demands and were so
persuasive that they had a
change of heart. The new edition
was compiled almost in secrecy.
Many Evangelical Bible
authorities are greatly disturbed
by the possible changes in
interpretation that the new NIV
will promote. It is hoped that the
new translation will not be called
NIV but that the publisher will
be honest enough to call it the
"Feminist Bible" or at least the
"gender neutral" NIV.
The next time you pick up your
Bible try reading it as "gender
neutral" and you will get some
concept of just how the changes
distort the meaning of some very
basic doctrinal verses. Then
imagine some new Christian who
has not been grounded in Bible
study trying to make sense of
the scripture. It is sure to make
understanding the Bible most
difficult and Satan will gloat
again! The gains that this
translation seeks to achieve are
far outweighed by the loss. I don't
intend to buy a copy.
Another
Point
of View
Something that has not
received much publicity merits
some thought and discussion. The
International Bible Society and
Zondervan Publishing have
collaborated on a new translation
of the Bible. It is called the New
International Version. What
makes this new translation
different? It is "politically correct"
and "gender neutral." Some of
the changes could result in
doctrinal changes that differ
considerably from what God
intended when he inspired the
scriptures. The IBS has, up to
this point, been a leader in Bible
translation. They have tried to
stick closely to the language of
the original Bible texts. It is
disheartening to see them bow to
popular demands that the Bible
be gender neutral.
Five years ago this subject was
broached in a conference hosted
by Dr. James Dobson of Focus on
the Family. Those in attendance
apparently convinced IBS and
Zondervan representatives that
the project they were considering
was not a good idea. In fact, the
IBS board publicly announced
that it was abandoning plans for
Abbott plans kindergarten registration
Parents of eligible Abbott ISD kindergarten students (those who
will be five years of age on or before Sept. 2) are asked to bring the
following to the school district's administration office and register
their child by July 1. The school office is open from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on
weekdays. Abbott School is also seeking the names of four-year-olds
in order to determine whether or not a pre-kindergarten program
may be offered in the school district. These children must be 4-years-
old by Sept. 1 and meet one of the following criteria: must be unable
to speak or comprehend English, have a delay in speech or language
development or qualify for free or reduced lunches under the
national School Lunch Program. Parents of all 4-year-olds are asked
to contact the school district at 254-582-3011.
