Obituaries
Fred L. Stewart
Fred L. Stewart, age 71, of Elm Mott, passed away Monday
morning, October 30, 2000 in Waco, following a second stroke.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday at White Rock Cem-
etery near Ross, with the Rev. Darrel Phillips officiating. The fam-
ily received visitors at the funeral home prior to the graveside ser-
vice.
Mr. Stewart was born on September 29, 1929 in Waco, the son
of Walter and Winnie Stewart. He attended Texas A & M Univer-
sity and later served in the United States Marine Corp during the
Korean Conflict. He married Nancy Louise Boone in September of
1950 in Waco. He went on to a life-long respected career as a plumb-
ing salesman which he enjoyed for the rest of his life. He was a
cancer survivor for many years and helped many others to deal
with the same illness, offering them reassurance and giving them
hope. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elm
Mott.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy Stewart
of Elm Mott; one son, Mike Stewart of Houston; one brother, Walter
R. Stewart, Jr. of Oceanside, California; one sister, Juanita Miller
of Killeen; and six grandchildren, Chance and Ryan Reed, Misti
Stewart, Kyle, Randy and Travis Beard.
Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
Joseph C. “Joe” Prnka
Joseph C. “Joe” Prnka, age 61, of Trinidad, Texas, died October
29, 2000 in Trinidad.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 1,
2000 in the First Pentecostal Church of God in Corsicana with
Brother Cary Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Trinidad
Cemetery.
Mr. Prnka was born June 27, 1939 in Lott, Texas, the son of Jo-
seph V. Prnka and Wilma Rubik Prnka. He was a member of the
First Pentecostal Church of God in Corsicana. He worked for St.
Louis Southwestern for 29 years as a signal maintainer.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathy Prnka of Trinidad;
father Joseph V. Prnka of West; 3 sons, Rodney and Shonda Prnka,
Trinidad, Ryan Prnka, Kountz, Texas and Jusrin Prnka, Trinidad;
two sisters: Blanche Gorby, Brookville, Pennsylvania and Louise
Prnka, Dallas, and a granddaughter, Miranda Prnka of Trinidad.
He was predeceased by his mother in July 2000. He leaves a host of
other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were: Ed Garrett,, Glen Prater, Tim Miles, Chris
Barber, Ralph Dudley, Jerry Canton and Dan Curry. Honorary Pall-
bearers were: F. R. Bell, Pete Coker, Jimmie Jayroe, Lee Roy Fade,
and Gene Reagan.
Tomlinson Funeral Home of Malakoff was in charge of arrange-
ments.

Clarence (C.W.) Hannes
Clarence (C.W.) Hannes, age 72, died Wednesday afternoon, Oc-
tober 25, 2000 in Providence Hospital in Waco.
Rosary was recited Friday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the
Assumption with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Grave-
side Rites followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in West, conducted by
V.F.W. Post #4819 of West.
Mr. Hannes was born March 14, 1927 in Dime Box, Lee County,
Texas. He moved to Elm Mott and then to West in 1951. He was
employed at the Waco VA Hospital for nine years and General Tire
and Rubber Company for 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church of the Assumption where he served as usher for 40
years, Knights of Columbus Council #2305, K.J.T. Society #31 of
West. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Navy and a mem-
ber of V.F.W. Post #4819 of West.
He married Tootsie Lucien September 6,1948 in West. After re-
tirement from General Tire he enjoyed his woodworking and his
friends.
Mr. Hannes is survived by his wife Lillian (Tootsie) Hannes of
West; one son, Bill Hannes and his wife Pam of Flower Mound; four
daughters, Fran Hoggard and her husband Bill of Clifton, Sharon
Lassiter and her husband Sonny of Fort Worth, Linda Hill and her
husband Dennis of Watauga and Sandra Peterson and her husband
Keith of Houston; two brothers, L.D. Hannes of Leroy and Jodie
Hannes of Gracie, Kentucky; two sisters, Molly Gilmore and her
husband Bill of Tokio and Delores Cammack and her husband Bud
of Rogers Hill; five grandchildren, Bill and Megan Hannes, Lind-
say Hill and Trenton and Emily Peterson.
Active Pallbearers were Billy Hannes Kevin Grones, Pat
Cammack, Billy Wolf, Mike Cammack, Allen Lucien, George Fidler
and Dr. Leonard Gallia.
Honorary Pallbearers were members of V.F.W. Post #4819, the
V.F.W. Post #4819 Honor Guard and all of his friends.
Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Louis W. Kazda
Louis W. Kazda, age 81 of Abbott, passed away Friday evening,
October 27, 2000 in a Hillsboro nursing home.
Rosary was recited Saturday in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel
in West.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 3 p.m. Sunday in the
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Ron
Scheible, O.S.A., as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites followed in
Fatima Cemetery in Abbott.
Mr. Kazda was born March 22, 1919 in Waco. He had lived in
the Abbott area most of his life. He was retired from Certain-teed
Products as a maintenance supervisor and was a farmer. He was a
former member of the Abbott Independent School District Board of
Trustees serving for 20 years, member of the Immaculate Heart of
Mary Catholic Church in Abbott; Knights of Columbus Abbott Coun-
cil; the K.J.T. Society #107; S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #6 in Cottonwood; vet-
eran of WWII serving his country in the U.S. Navy and the V.F.W.
Post #4819 of West.
He married Mary Pavlas, July 22,1939 at West. She preceeded
him in death on December 12,1986. He was also preceeded in death
by two grandsons.
Survivors include three sons; John Kazda and wife Judy of Al-
bany, Texas; Richard Kazda and wife Barbara of Fort Worrh and
Jerry Kazda and wife Debbie of Abbott; two daughters, Barbara
Muehlstein and husband Frankie Jr. of China Spring and Mary
Carey and husband Dale of Terrell; one brother, Walter Kazda of
Camano Island, Washington; nineteen grandchildren and 16 great
grandchildren.
Active Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Callie Gonce
Callie Gonce, age 87, of Waco, formerly of West, passed away
early Wednesday morning, October 25, 2000 in Waco.
Graveside services were held Friday, October 27, at Bold Springs
Cemetery near West, with the Rev. John Crowder officiating. The
family received visitors on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gonce was bom June 29,1913 in Aquilla, the daughter of
Will and Lou Holder. She married Milford Rudolph Gonce on Janu-
ary 27,1934 in West. He preceded her in death on June 24,1975.
She was a homemaker and loving wife, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church
in West.
She is suvived by two sons, Billy Gonce and wife Frances and
Wilburn Gonce, and wjfe Evelyn, all of Waco; three daughters, Joyce
Eastwood and husband Aubrey of Matagorda, Jeanette Markum
and husband Don of Robinson and Gwen Mashek and husband Wes-
ley of Hewitt; one brorher, Ernest (Dick) Holder of Gholson; three
sisters, Robbie Britton, Elen Shiflett and Dell Hay, all of Houston;
sister-in-law, Gladys Holder of Waco; ten grandchildren; eight great-
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hill-
crest Community Hospuce.
