• Avoid overdrying—
overdrying wastes energy
and can create static electri-
city and wrinkling as well as
shrinkage of many cottons
and knitted fabrics.
• Use your dryer’s full
capacity—energy is wasted
when only one or two items
are dried at a time.
• Don’t overload—clothes
dry more quickly if they
can tumble freely.
• Clean lint screen after
each load—a build-up of lint
lengthens the drying time
and uses more energy.

It was a wonderful Thanks-
giving for most people with
many visitors, good food and
almost perfect weather. The
day started for many of us with
a Mass at 8:30 a.m. at the
Catholic Church and our pastor,
the Rev. Gilbert Barth had a
nice homily or sermon on the
subject of gratitude, something
we should remember every day
of our life and so often forget.
Mr. and Mrs. Ike Pratka had
all their family home for
Thanksgiving. Mrs. John No-
vak and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Peevy
joined the group for a good
feast. Stasy, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Calvin Pratka, and
Candice, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Alton Pratka, stayed with
their grandparents until Satur-
day evening. They are bright,
pretty girls of eight and
nine-years-old.
Mr. and Mrs. Ike Pratka had
their first Thanksgiving dinner
on Sunday, Nov. 22, with their
son, Thomas, and his family of
Hewitt.
Ike Pratka went hunting in
Evant with son Thomas and his
father-in-law, James Millsap.
They came home with seven
deer and two turkeys. Thomas
got a beautiful eight point buck.
Pratka sons Alton, Calvin and
Ike Bernard went to New
Braunfels for their deer.
Alton’s young son David
accompanied them. They came
home with four deer. Alton hit a
nine point, Calvin got an eight
point and Ike Bernard came
back with a six point. There was
plenty of sausage and steaks for
all.
It was a truly happy Thanks-
giving for Mr. and Mrs. Tommy
Crum of Bellmead and for aunt
Eula Mae Ondrej of Penelope
on the birth of Terry Mart Crum
in West Community Hospital on
Thanksgiving Day. He weighed
seven pounds, 3'/j ounces and
was 19% inches long.
Mrs. Crum is the former
Alice Monthei. Mrs. Mary
Mikuda, who had to see the
baby several times, says he is a
beautiful baby and a real
Thanksgiving gift. Terry Mart
was welcomed home by
seven-year-old brother Tommy
Davis.
Congratulations to the happy
parents, aunt Eula Mae,,
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.
D. Howell of Malone; great-
grandparents Mrs. Louise
Black of Axtell and Mrs. Jim
Jones of Hillsboro.
Mrs. Mary Mikuda enjoyed
Thanksgiving with her daugh-
ter’s family, Mr. and Mrs.
Elton Stuckly and their children
Darlene, Junior and Charlotte
and their families. They had a
wonderful day together but the
next day, Mrs. Darlene Herring
was rushed to the hospital with
an attack of appendicitis. Her
two boys and her girl cried, but
she came through the operation
very well. Grandmother Mrs.
Mary Stuckly has been to see
her several times. Best wishes
for a complete recovery.
Mrs. Frances Tobola had a
wonderful Thanksgiving with
some of her children and their
families, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Tobola and sons and Mr. and
Mrs. Tony Michalek and sons.
My Thanksgiving was not
overlooked with a turkey dinner
and all the trimmings from the
Gene Marek family and deer
sausage from the Pratka family.
Mrs. Agnes Konvicka and Mrs.
Rosie Firasek took me for a tour
of all the cemeteries, and we
saw tombstones I did not know
existed.
One read 1895, the year the
first school was started at the
small community of ZeeVee
where St. Joseph’s Cemetery is
now. When I find out more I
will write about it again.
Mrs. Firasek says that her
mother, another member of a
pioneer family, told her that
there were three graves at the
present site of St. Mary's
Cemetery when Robert Tobo-
la’s great-grandfather donated
the land.
Pat Barton of Waco came to
see his father Rudy Barton for
Thanksgiving.
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Tobola
had Thanksgiving dinner with
their children in Dallas on
Sunday. Nov. 22. They had a
very nice time.
Father Bill Aaron of Fort
Worth spent Thanksgiving in
Penelope and visited several
families. He stayed until
Saturday and offered the 7:30 a
a.m. Mass Saturday morning.
A number of parishionrs were
able to attend. He promised to
come again, maybe after
Christmas.
Mr. and Mrs. David Glomb of
Tours gave a Thanksgiving
dinner for her family. Mrs.
Bessie Rejcek, Terri and Albert
were there; also Mr. and Mrs.
Gerald Barak and baby; Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Rejcek and
baby and aunt and uncle, Mr.
and Mrs. Pete Gallia.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ellison of
Whitney came with friends.
They are former teachers in
Penelope and Mr. Ellison was
school superintendent before
moving to Poteet. They are
retired now. Charles is in
California; Randy is married
and teaching school and
Melanie is in college.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie
Robinson had a big Thanksgiv-
ing dinner with their children
and grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. August Dvorak
had all their family home for
Thanksgiving, including the
new grandson Paul Wilfred
Cervenka.
Mrs. Ethel Stepp was looking
forward to spending Thanksgiv-
ing with Mr. and Mrs. Garner
and Naomi Scott and son Dodd
in Dallas. She was to drive up
with the Doyle Stepp family of
Malone. Her daughters and
sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Dunlap and Mrs. and
Mrs. L. H. Dickinson of
Longview and their families
were to meet them there.
But 11-year-old Duane Stepp,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle
Stepp, fell at the Malone school
and had a serious head injury.
There are no permanent
damages, but he must be very
careful in the next weeks and
possibly months. The families
stayed home and had their own
Thanksgiving dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Ike Firasek of
Fort Worth had dinner with Mr.
and Mrs. Ben Firasek on
Thanksgiving.
Congratulations to Penelope
FFA. They took top honors
Thursday, Nov. 19, at the
District Contest held at Hill
Junior College. The students
have also been winning ball
games. The girls and boys
teams beat the Parkview
Christian Academy of Waco
and the girls team beat
Whitney by an exciting one
point.
Have a good day!
