West School District Sells M.O. Robinson Gym
by Larry Knapek
West Independent School District trustees voted to sell M.
0. Robinson Gymnasium to the Church of the Assumption
for $25,000 during their board meeting Monday night at the
West High School.
The Church of the Assumption, which owns St. Mary’s
School, was the highest of three bidders for the gymnasium.
Other bidders were Edward Stacy, $5100, and Byford and
Morris, who would demolish the gym free in exchange for
it’s materials.
The board members had opened these bids at a February
14 meeting, but decided not to make a decision on the
gym’s sale until Monday night’s meeting. Thomas Sandifer,
West ISD superintendent, said the gym’s sale would take
effect immediately. Board members also agreed the West
School District would pay for current termite treatment on
the gym.
In other board action, West trustees voted to set a $200
transfer fee for students wishing to transfer to West schools.
This fee is the same amount as this year’s fee. Sandifer
recommended the $200fee “1 think $900 is wHictie."
The trustees, minus Edmund Sykora and Donald Adair
(who were both absent from the meeting), voted to give
school officials authority to sign a complaint against people
tearing up school property.
The board also voted three to one to adopt textbooks for
the 1983-84 school year. These textbooks were
recommended for approval by a committee comprised of
school officials and teachers.
The teachers at the three school campuses were rehired at
the meetinn Mrc Frma Rnpssler a West High School cook,
was granted a leave of absence by the board meeting and
Mrs. Agnes Straten was re-employed for another year.
West trustees passed a resolution to participate in the
Texas Commission of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Program
sponsored by the Heart of Texas Council of Governments.
This program, Sandifer said, would be for grades 6-12 and
would furnish alcoholism and drug abuse material in
addition to giving talks and showing films on these two
subjects.
