Mr. and Mrs. Milton C.
Morgan spent a few days last
week vacationing in Dallas.
Mrs. Cecelia Jenkins enjoyed
her vacation in San Francisco,
California with her daughter
and family, Mr. and Mrs. John
Jordan and granddaughter Jes-
sica. She enjoyed the sights of
The Golden Gate Bridge, China
Town, Fishermen’s Wharf, and
many other attractions. After
returning home she enjoyed a
visit from her daughter Mrs.
Robert Rockett, Robbie, Gail
and Kevin of Seguin, Texas.
Mrs. John F. Jaska and Mrs.
Ed Jaska visited in the Whitney
hospital Thursday afternoon
with Mrs. Walter Killion who
underwent major surgey last
week. "Wish you a speedy
recovery.”
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Blaschke
spent Sunday in Dallas visiting
her mother, Mrs. Emilie Lander
and also her sister and
brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs.
Raymond Holzer. They helped
celebrate Mrs. Lander’s birth-
day. “Happy belated birth-
day!”
Mr. and Mrs. A. Robert
Kuklies, Vanessa and Mike of
Lake Jackson spent part of their
two weeks vacationing, and
sightseeing in San Antonio,
Hamilton and Glenrose. In
Hamilton they spent several
days last week visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
E. Kuklies and other relatives.
From Sunday through Wednes-
day they visited her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John King, Sr.,
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Grones
and Sandra and Vicki Allen
toured the Longhorn Tavern in
Burnett, Texas last Saturday.
They also went to the Aquarina
Water Show in San Marcos, and
they reported that they enjoyed
the trip and scenery very much.
Mrs. M.R. Lumbly of Temple
spent ten days visiting her sister
and brother-in-law Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Jaska and Ricky.
Mrs. Gary Hayes, Debra,
Kathleen and Wendy of Waco
and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd
Mangrum, Jessica, and Rhonda
of West were supper guests of
Mr. and Mrs. H.N. Peterson
Friday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Blas-
chke and Sharon of Northcrest
had lunch Sunday with his
mother Mrs. Charlie Blaschke of
West.
Mrs. John King, Jr., John
Brian and Natasha of Whitney
spent the weekend visiting Mr.
and Mrs. John King, Sr., and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Scott Kelly,
Sherry and Chris of Stephenville
and Capt. Ronald L. Kelly of

last weekend visitors in the

Lavon Bass visited his aunt,
Mrs. Brockman, Tuesday eve-
ning.
Mrs. Jeff Prikryl reported to
Mrs. Austin that their daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Pistor of Highland Park
at Dallas have been on a
month’s vacation in London,
England. They left June 28th
and returned Friday, July 28th.
Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Prikryl of
Euless left last week for Florida
on vacation.
The Prikryls' son-in-law Joe
Malik, had heart surgery
Thurs., July 27th in Tuscon,
Arizona. The last report is that
he is doing nicely. Their
daughter Paula Lisa Malik of
Hollywood, California has been
on a tour with a Jazz Band for
three weeks and was in
Montana last week. Mrs. Malik
took their son Joie, to Flag Staff,
Arizona recenty for a concert
and he was 2nd best drummer.
Mrs. L.G. Wright, Scotty and
Cindy of Lacy Lakeview and
Mrs. Ora Lee Bairrington of
Dickinson visited the Austins
last Tues. Mrs. Bairrington
came with the John Roy
Sawyers who were visiting and
working on his mother's house,
Mrs. Myra Sawyer in Mt. Calm.
They returned home Wednes-
day.
Rev. and Mrs. Ellis of Waco
went to and visited with the
Austins Tuesday evening. He
brought his projector and
showed two rolls of films that
the Moores sent from Italy.
Mrs. Jimmy Sinkule and
Elaine, Lanet and Donna Klani-
ka were in Waco Wednesday
and went by to see Mrs. Adolph
Lander. Mrs. Lander had
surgery again on Thursday.
Daren, Doug and Dwain
Sinkule were at the James
Sinkules Thursday morning on
Friday Mrs. William Sinkule,
Dwain and Doug and Calvin
went to Dallas to her sister’s for
the rehearsal of her niece’s
wedding that took place on
Saturday evening. Daren was in
the wedding. Mrs. Tommy
Sinkule kept the two smaller
children of the Bill Sinkules and
Elaine helped her with them
Saturday. Mrs. James Sinkule,
Vincent and Dennis went to
Dallas and attended the wed-
ding and returned home Satur-
day night.
Mrs. Mary Podsednik attend-
ed the wedding, supper and
dance of Miss Annette Faye
Rauschuber and John Mark
Poteet, Saturday afternoon.
Wedding vows were solemnized
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of
the Assumption in West.
The Charles Austins visited
the L.G. Wrights at Lacy
Lakeview Saturday evening.

They attended church services
at Bosqueville Baptist Church at
eleven Sunday morning. They
attended the dinner at the
church, went to see the boys
play ball at 2 p.m. and came
back to church at 4 p.m. and
attened a deacon’s ordination,
then back to a ball game at 6:30
again. The boys had entered a
tournament and won 4th place.
Mr. and Mrs. Cobble Chris-
tian took dinner and spent the
day with her sister, Nira. They
went by the Warren Hudgens in
the afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Roberts
of Aquilla spent Sunday with the
Olin Christians.
Lanet and Donna Klanika and
Doris Lander of Malone attend-
ed a show in Waco at Lake Air
Sunday afternoon, then visited
their stepmother, Mrs. Lander
and their cousin, Bobbie Reinke
in the Hillcrest Hospital. Lanet
visited her friend Kathy at
Malone Monday.
Rev. Anderson held a few
days revival at a place west of
West last week.
Attention: High
School Girls
High school girls interested in
becoming pep squad members
are asked to meet in front of the
high school gym on Monday,
August 14, 1978 at 7:00 p.m.
Uniforms for the 1978-1979
football season will be discussed
and some new yells will be
taught. Please come and help
support the West Trojans. All
old and new members are
requested to be present for this
organizational meeting.

Father Bill Benish, of the St
Mary’s Catholic Church of the
Assumption in West, was
honored with a farewell party
from 6-8 p.m. July 23 in St.
Joseph’s Hall. The party was
given by all the parish societies.
During the party, Father
Benish was able to shake hands
and say good-bye to many of his
parishoners. A combination
AM/FM radio and tape recorder
was given as a farewell present
to Father Benish by the KJT,
KJZT, Knights of Columbus,
Catholic Daughters, St. Mary's
Quarterback Club and St.
Mary’s Parent Teacher Club.
Father Benish has been
transferred to the St. Louis
Catholic Church in Austin where
he will be the associate pastor.
He left for Austin on August 2.
He came to West from Cameron
in August of 1974.
Concerning his leaving West,
Father Benish said, "I leave
with great regret because it is a
great community.” He also said
that the city’s biggest asset is its
community pride.
"The friendly city of pro-
gress” is a phrase that Father
Benish said best summarizes
West.
Father Gene Shephard, of
Lockhart, will be replacing
Father Benish. He is scheduled
to arrive in West today.
Father Shephard is a former
Dominican Brother and just
recently, July 16, became an
FATHER BENISH SHAKES HANDS—with one of the many well
wishers that greeted him at a farewell party given in his honor from
6 to 8 p.m. July 23 at the St. Joseph’s Hall in West. Father Benish
left for Austin where he will be the Associate Pastor for the St.
Louis Catholic Church.

The West Rest Haven and
area hospitals will surely miss
the friendly sight of Father
Benish as he visited these
places many times during his
four years in West.
Though Father Benish will be
in Austin, the memory of his
friendliness and helpfulness will
linger in the minds of Westites
for a long time to come.
