chiropractors privileges at the hospi-
tal (which was approved at the meet-
ing) and trying to get preferred pro-
vider arrangements with West busi-
nesses in an effort to get potential-
hospital users to use the West Com-
munity Hospital instead of going out-
of-town for their medical needs.
Hudson said he felt without the
hospital, the West Rest Haven and the
West Volunteer Ambulance Service
would struggle.
In the general comment portion of
the meeting, Julia Bartnicki, a former
WCH board member, said he had read
in The West News that former West
physician Dr. Bill D. Pierce had ap-
proached the hospital board about
hiring him as a consultant to the hos-
pital on ways to create revenue. She
said it was her opinion that since Dr.
Pierce had spent many of his years in
the medical field in West, he should
be willing to give the hospital board
on turning the hospital’s financial
situation around at no charge.
Kathy Swaner, a WCH employee,
told the group she had been attending
the board meetings the past several
months and urged the present board to
move rapidly in taking the needed
measures to improve the hospital's
financial condition.
Board President David Pareya
concluded the meeting by challeng-
ing the citizens of West to help keep
the West hospital open. "If you do not
make use of its facilities our doors
will surely close. Each time one of
you goes to Waco for a test which can
be done at the West Community
Hospital, you put another nail in the
hospital's coffin."

TU refund
DALLAS - TU Electric in Febru-
ary will refund to its customers about
$64 million, including interest, that
was over-collected through Septem-
ber 1989 because of unusually moder-
ate weather.
The company's request to make the
refund was approved on January 16
by the Texas Public Utility commis-
sion. It will be made through a credit
on February bills, with the residential
customer who uses 1,000 kilowatt-
hours of electricity receiving a credit
of about $9.50.
Because of the unseasonably mild
weather in the company's service area
through last September, customers
used less electricity. Therefore, TU
Electric was able to use less of its
higher-priced fuel supplies to meet
customers' needs the result was lower
costs for fuel to generate electricity
during the affected lime period.
