Sinton Boy wins $50 Prize
At the recent meeting of the
Texas Industrial Congress, held
in conjunction with the Inter-
national Corn Show at Dallas,
Texas, Emmet Strickland of the j the orchestra of the ill-fated Ti-
Sodville neighborhood received a ; tanic that played their own !
prize of $50 for a yield of 6.11, funeral dirge as they sank be-1
tons of kaffir corn on two acres j neath the icy waters of the;
of land. He also received 4th j Northern Atlantic two years ago;
prize on best display of ten heads next month, and their courage
of kaffir corn. Those who will and bravery will go down in his-
V
remember how dry it was here
last April, May and part of June
may well be surprised at this
large yield of grain. The secret
of Emmet’s success was follow-
ing closely the cultural methods
of the U. S. Department of Agri-
culture as given him by the Farm-
ers Co-operative Demonstration
Bureau.
Emmet had had no previous^
instructions as to the ten heads
and did not make the selection
until the crop was headed and
put in the barn. No doubt had
this selection been made in the
field where every head could be
seen, he would have carried off
first honors.
If a boy can make such a yield
as this, why should not some of
our good farmers show us what
they can do.—Contributed.
tory. Last week - at Atlanta,
their example was followed on a
smaller scale by a little school
girl twelve yeors old, who calmly
played Dixie on a piano while
five hundred of her schoolmates
marched from the burning school
building. It took exactly two
minutes to clear the entire build-
ing and there was no loss of life.
The million school children
who attend Texas schools and
their teachers would do well to
follow the example of the Geor-
gia school and practice fire drills
at regular intervals. Self pres-
ervation is the first law of nature,
and eternal vigilance should be
the watchword of every school
in Texas.

Another Fine Rain
This section of the country
was treated to a fine rain Wed-

the ground in fine condition.
The crops which have already
been planted will come up with-

time makes prospects for a heavy
crop this year very flattering.

When your doctor looks tp see
f if your tongue is coated, he is’
trying to find out if your liver is
working properly. A few years
ago doctors had to prescribe cal* |
omel—there was nothing else to [
give. . v
Recently in many sections of i
the country Dodson’s Liver Tone *
| has practically taken the place
1 tef calomel as a liver remedy*
Dodson’s Liver Tone is mild,
pleasant' tasting and harmless—
which makes it a fine medicine
for use when your children
come billious and constipated
But the most remarkable fea
of Dodson’s Liver Tone is the
fact that Vermilion Drug G
who sells it, guarantees it abso-
lutely. The druggist will returi
