that th
veterans’ bureau is working- on .a'
plan to give the hospital the same
allocation it has had in the past.
'This allocatioif-was 250 last spring
when Kleberg secured an . increase
of 25 beds,; giving a total of ,275.
Word has been received here the
allocation would be reduced now
to 250'in spite of an- increased de-
mand for hospitalization.
'Kleberg has protested direct. to
General Frank Hines,; administra-
tor of veterans’ affairs, and has ask-
ed other congressmen and legisla-
tors of Texas to file their protests.
In his wire to the Chief Medical
Officer of the Veteran’s Administra-
tion. Kleberg stated, “I cannot, be-
lieve -but .that this reduction, which
SO detrimentally affects every dis-
abled ‘ man in Central and 'South
Texas, is one of the most , danger-
ous'and ill-ad-vised orders ever is’'
sued. Have’ received'-protests from,
nil pver Texas and would appreciate
your wiring me» probability- of can-
celling present standing order mak-
ing this reduction’.” - .
The American Legion, through
Wynn S. Go.ode of Austin, state
service officer, appealed to Kleberg
to have the increased - allpi’Bt^oii
restored.
Reduction in allocation as planned
by die bureau would, make it prac-
tically impossible to have any vet-
eran in South Texas hospitalized
within three months, it is said here.
The Hee.d for all service possible
is urgent at this’.time, according to
L-.C: 'Chapman.regional manager of
veterans'', affairs' at San Antouio,
who has communicat ed with Kle-
berg regaTii-ing the reduction.
•It' has hgen -explained that there
now are 99 preference and- 563 rou-
