Beevilie Games
Although bad weather prevented
as nice a crowd as last Friday night
a good number of fans braved the
rain Tuesday night to watch Sinton
and Beevilie meet.
The Independents met their first
defeat of the year at the hands of
the strong Beevilie outfit, 43-39 in
another thrilling game. The Bee-
vilie team, which has not suffered
defeat in this section for several
years, presented another well or-
ganized team which worked well
and took advantage of every break.
The brand of ball that Sinton
played was of the highest standard.
The game was not over until the
last whistle blew.
—sSs— ;
High School Wins
The Sinton High School came
through with two impressive vic-
tories this week that will tend to
open the' eyes of the other high
school teams in the county. In fact
they opened the eye's of this wri-
ter. .
They defeated Aransas Pass Fri-
day pight by practically the same
score as Taft did the Tuesday pre-
vious. Then last Tuesday night
they doubled the score on Beevilie,
which is something to speak of.
Coach Smith will enter his team
iii the tournament at Taft Saturday
and it is certain that they will give
a good account of themselves.
The Sinton boys weYe slow in
getting started, and early in the
season looked hopeless, but steady
work by Coach Smith and the toys
gradually developed them into a
well trained, accurate passing com-
bination.

T . * Wottamen” Burford
Matt ‘Wottamen” Burford is a
popular young referee, of these
parts. He is Mrs. M. M. Burford’s
little boy, of Taft.
Matt “Wottamen” Burford is a
“Wottamsn" ’cause he would make
three men, say about the size of
“Tuba” Cannon, if he were divided
equally into three parts, or five
the size of Coach Smith and maybe
several more the size of auch mid-
gets ad Ward Crow and Prof. Ward
Brandstetter.
Now there Is good reason why
“Wottamen" Burford Is a |ood re-
feresf In the first, second and
fifth places, he can keep order jn
the house, for it is a very brave
man, Indeed, which will thlk back
to Mr. “Wottamen.” .
The only trouble about Mr. “Wot-
tamen” Burford refereeing in the
Sihton gym is when he Is present
there is not enough room for the
players and spectators in the build-
ing." ' ;r7 0 i ' V';.
Mr. “Wottamen” has refereed too
this
good weight, but not his customary
310, which is really a scale wreck-
er.
But, when better basketball games
are referred, “Wottamen” Burford
will probably be the guy blowing
the whistle-

PEOPLE LOVE TO BE FOOLED
Yes, this is the season when ped-
dlers. the solicitors, the “order ta-
kers” and all that tribe who come
into your city from some unknown
place to get easy pickings by giv-
ing light values, or no values, are
in their glory. And do these people
of this town fall for their scheme?
We’ll say the people of this town
do all, fall often and fall hard. Bttt^.
there isn’t anything you can do
about it—everybody to his own no-
tion, as the old woman said when
she kissed the cow. A nextdoor
neighbor can work hard in trying to
build up a little business, can pay
taxes, and spend of his time and
money in advancing the enterprises
that make the community, a desir-
able place to live in—can also em-
ploy a lot of labor who likewise
spend their earnings here and work
to make the town better in every
way—but these fly-by-nights with
cheap schemes that- won’t stand the
test of honest business methods get
the patronage preference just the
same. Ain’t human nature a funny
thing?—Tyler Journal.
