Mrs. W. M. Stalcup, president of
the W.M.U. is leaving in a few
days for a visit to her daughter at
Berkley, California.
T. E. Ward went to San Antonio
the first of the week, where he
will be located temporarily and will
be found at the Texas Hotel Barber
Shpp.
C. C. Miller of Bishop is assisting
in the Ewing and Phillips Hard-
ware store at this place during the
absence of Mr. J. H. Ewing.
Mr. and Mrs. Carey Eads, Mes-
dames George Cook, Joe Franklin
and J. T. Dawson were among those
who attended the celebration at
Robstown on Wednesday of last
‘week.
Mr. and Mrs. George P. Bledsoe
arrived Wednesday from Orange,
Texas, to be guests of Mrs. Bled-
soe’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. B.
Stevens.
A heavy rain, accompanied by a
hard wind and electrical storm, hit
this section Tuesday night.
W. S. Vawter and J. C. Russell
attended a Community get-together
meeting at the Hurdic school house,
eight miles from Woodsboro, where
a barbecue dinner was served.
Miss Gladys Cellum, assisted by
her mother, Mrs. G. L. Cellum,
charmingly entertained the Senior
Class and Faculty of the Sinton
High School and a few invited
friends on Monday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Reynolds
and Mr. and Mrs. James Kirkpat-
rick spent Sunday with relatives in
Beeville.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hayes and
baby returned Wednesday after-
noon from a visit with Mr. Hayes
parents in Houston.
J. W. Moses rnd wife were pas-
sengers to San Antonio Monday.
The resident of H. T. Beckworth
is receiving a new coat of paint
this week.

The Refugio May Fete, which
was held in the Civic Club auditor-
ium in Woodsboro Saturday eve-
ning, was attended by Miss Winnie
Birkner as Duchess and Vincent
Nicholson as her escort.
Mrs. Walter G. Martin has named
Miss Lynette Zimmerman, a grad-
uate elect, as honorce when she will
•. entertain the members of her Sun-
day School Class with a nine o’clock
breakfast Saturday morning.
Mrs. George W. Beever is com-
plimenting the young lady mem-
bers of the Senior Class with a
bridge and forty-two party.
J. E. Do^on, owner and man-
ager of Dodson’s garage, has in-
stalled a new auto greasing system
in his place of business.
Mrs. Roy Davis and son of San
Anton>o arrived Sunday morning
to spend a few days with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. D. J. Wil-
liams.
Improvements are being made
this week in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. L. W. McCaskill on Borden
Street.
Mr. and Mrs W. 0. Smith of Los
Angeles, California, were guests

sup, while enroute to New York

his cousin, Miss Minerva Harde-
man in Sinton Saturday.
Mrs. R. E. Shipp returned to her
home in Beeville Saturday after an
extended visit with Mr. and Mrs.
O. L. Shipp and Miss Josephine
Shipp.
Mrs. R. Kunitz and daughter, Miss
Agnes Pauline, Mrs. Homor T. El-
kins, and Mrs. Susan Sipes, attend-
ed the May Day program and in-
stallation of P-TA officers in Odem
Friday night.
Miss Mary Ruth Bickley, of Cor-
pus Christi, returned home Satur-
day after spending several days
here as the guest of Miss Louise
Ward in (he home of Mr. and Mrs.
J. T. Dawson.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris P. Rachal of
Portland announce (he marriage of
their daughter, Margaret Frances,
to John Ball Harney, Jr.
The Modern Priscilla Club held
a very enjoyable meeting at Park
Welder Thursday afternoon by way
of an outdoor party.

Fire Chief Guy Griffin and H.
E. Roach will leave at the weekend
for College Station where they will
attend the A&M College short
course for special training in na-
tional defense.
Mrs. J. D. Hollan, Sr. was compli-
mented Thursday afternoon when
her daughter-in-law, Mrs. J. D. Hol-
lan, Jr. and Mrs. A. A. Tumlinson
entertained her on her birthday an-
niversary.
Marvin K. Edgar had the misfor-
tune to break his left arm while
playing with little friends in the
Rhea Gracey home in Robstown
where he was spending last week-
end.
Mr. and Mrs. Julian Turner who
have spent the past two weeks visit-
ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
George Ritchea and sister, Mrs. P.
E. Featherling, will return to their
home in Hobbs, New Mexico this
weekend.
Word has been received that
Sammy Charles, of Camp Bowie at
Brownwood, son of Mr. and Mrs.
C. Charles, has been promoted to
Corporal.
Sgt. Jimmie Whatley returned to
his post with the Medical Section
Army Air Corps, Phoenix, Arizona,
Saturday after visiting his friends
and parents, here while on* fur-
lough.
Miss Elizabeth Benson, a teacher
in the Portland schools, spent the
weekend with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. M. F. Benson.
Miss Helen Dragoo of San An-
tonio visited her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Andrew Dragoo Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hesterly
moved to Corpus Christi Sunday
where Mr. Hesterly is employed at
the Naval Base.
Miss Jeanne Wood, who has been
employed as secretary in the local
FSA office since last November will
