ed by five members of the Sinton

cided that 4 concerted effort would

While presenting an oral petition
for an attendance officer. Pete Can-
delarias, honorary member of the

ed that many children of Mexi-

in school at the present time. Joe
Zapata,' president of the Sinton
Forum, reiterated Candelarias'
statement, pointing out that many
families consisting of several child-
ren of school age were not sendtiig
those children to school.

cooperation In the matter and sug-
gested that each time a school-age
child should be found out of school,
members of the Forum' notify
sohool authorities. ,J5. Merle Smith,
Superintendent of schools, pledged
his support In the matter and ex-
pressed hie belief that with the

move in the drive had been made
when, before the present school
term began, a parpplet was pub-
lished, |n Spanish and distributed
throughout Sinton by the Forum
encouraging parents to send . their
children to school. Superintendent
Smith stated that he had made a
practice of . stopping all school-age
children who were on the streets
during school hours, had investi-
gated their reasons for being ab-
sent and when possible h*d re-
turned them to1 school.
Further business of the board,
