V-Mail Quickest
Way To Contact
Boys Overseas
HOUSTOJT April «th.—With V-
mail stations now functioning
smoothly In widely scattered over-
seas areas, the Navy Department
Is launching a drive to promote the
use of V-Mail to Nayal personnel,
according to an announcement to-
day by Lieut. Brian Coyne, public
relations officer. Over 10,000.000
V-Mail letters have been safely
delivered to date.
Because lt Is sixty-five times
lighter than regular mail, V-Mail
photographed on microfilm and
dispatched to Its destination by air,
means a substantial Slaving of val-
uable plane space. One small strip
of V - Mail film carries 1,600 letters
and weighs only shelve ounces. A
mail bag carrying tne same amount
of regular mall weighs 48 pounds,
or one sack of V-Mail will equal
if5 sacks of ordinary mall. The sav-
ing in cargo space means more
room for transporting fighting
equipment, medical supplies, and
Tuesday for a short visit In the
home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Sam H. Preston. Mrs. Lacey and
Mrs. Fishkind will join their hus-
bands, Sgt. Lacey and Cpl. Fish-
kind, as soon as they, have bjgeri
notified of their new location. Sgt.
Lacey has been transferred from
Military Police headquarters at
Camp Logan, Houston.
